I want to buy the xfx ati 4890 but it says its needs both a 6 pin and 8 pin power connector..now i believe i am using a 6 pin power connector for my current gpu (its a pci/e power connector), but what is the 8 pin? Can that just be plugged into a molex connector because i have one spare in my machine.. Would like some feedback, because im confused as to whether i will be able to use this card if i buy it..

Did you not read what i posted, i dont want to spend a fortune just on a graphics card, they both cost ridiculous amounts of money. I want to buy the 4890, but need to know about the connectors......get a ati hd 5970 4 gig 8) honestly just get a gtx 460 1 gig it will do what ever you are looking for at that res

Not sure what this discussion is about or where you want it to go, but I agree, simply because games nowadays don't look bad, some might look artistically bad, but no half decent game looks less than good.DanielDustTrue in some respects, but if graphics look too bad it definitely puts me off. Having said that, i think a lot of people just judge by graphics and not gameplay. cs 1.6 for example-awful graphics (its old after all), but really good gameplay.
Well its in the title really, dont you css players think that some of these updates are totally meaningless, like when they modified the hdr lighting in dust 2, and ended up imo just making it look too bright, and generally making it look worse. Also dont you think they should of just tweaked the hitboxes and left it at that?
No they dont, only ranked matches do.Do unrestricted matches (matches that aren't skill ranked) count towards your stats?

[QUOTE="sn4k3_64"]How much is both the 5770 and 4890 you're looking at? The 4890 is, from a purely performance standpoint, the better card. Although it lacks the DX11 support that the 5770 has (which is somewhat trivial, but the only advantage that the 5770 has). Ok firstly both cards im looking at our the XFX editions and both cost about £117 so there is very little difference in terms of the price. Im not bothered much about dx11, because it seems to me that there isnt much of a difference between dx 10 and 11, plus the 4890 seems to be a really powerful card. The ONLY thing putting me off the 4890 right now is the connectors, it says it needs one 6 pin and one 8 pin power connector and i dont know whether i will be able to use them :S. Here is my psu http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/10136872/CiT-650UB-Black-Edition-650W-PSU-Power-Supply-Unit/Product.html atm im running my 9600gt with one 6 pin connector i believe, which i can connect to my psu. Sorry for all the info, i want to know which will be the best choice, as its an expensive upgrade to make. Thanks, SeanYeah i've heard a lot of good things about it, but it costs a lot of money and i dont think im prepared to spend £160 + for that card, its just too much. On the other hand, i've been looking at the 4x series ati cards on amazon, and there is a 4890 going quite a bit cheaper than the 5770, what would you say about this? To me it seems like an amazing deal, surely the 4890 would be a lot more powerful?

[QUOTE="Vfanek"]Hahahaha. You can't be serious. He's pro, he can't be more serious ;). Lol ok ok.. Anyway, the thing i miss about 1.6 was all the aim maps, and that people didnt stick to certain maps like they do on source now. It seems like people only play dust 2, italy and office and a few others might play on other maps but thats it with source[QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"]The only maps that are good at dust2 and office.DanielDust
My 9600gt is not ideal for the new games coming out, and i've wanted to upgrade it for a while, but the next card i get i wont be upgrading for a long time, so i want something that will last hopefully. Also bearing in mind i play at 1360x768, i shouldnt need a beast of a card, but i want something that will run the latest games maxed out at that res. Im not certain i will be able to buy a new card, but i'd like some feedback as to what would be good, so far the 5770 has been my choice, but i've heard alot about the nvidia 460 card (i think thats what it is :S), and people saying its slightly better.
Realize how much time you have wasted sitting at a computer, on a chair watching television, or playing videogames Tell me, how is watching TV, or surfing a videogame website any more productive than playing WoW? Also I don't see how WoW is any more addictive than television or any other online videogame. Cataclysm is bringing a lot of new changes that seem to streamline the game, which is good because WoW has some archaic mechanics that need to go. Also I am very excited about the Vanilla world revamp, it actually gives me an excuse to play an alt.[QUOTE="Im_single"][QUOTE="GummiRaccoon"]

people don't die because they watch tv.
The carrot on a stick nature of MMOs lend themselves to being addictive on an entirely different level than fps/rts or whatever. Someone who is deemed a casual player in an MMO would be considered super hardcore in any other genre. People skip out on important events in their lives to attend raids for a chance for an item upgrade. Back when wow had its old honor system, people put their lives on hold for 3 months straight just to hit rank 14.
I played wow, and prior to playing, I considered myself a typical gamer, I played all the games that everyone else played, I chose gaming over watching tv. But then, playing wow in a raiding guild with 50% attendence for 1 year, I was considered a casual gamer. Over the course of a year, I played 4-5 hours a night for 3-4 days a week and people considered me casual. That's a part time job for christ sakes.
I've made some really cool friends playing wow, some of which I've met IRL at xpac midnight openings or as a stop on the way to blizzcon. However, I have seen people literally destroy real life relationships over this game, quit their job, stop going to school. There are people who play games too much and then there are MMO players. I have not seen a genre disrupt daily life for as many people as I have seen with MMOs.
You have a good point in some respects, but at the end of the day, your not being made to play this game, its your choice. I can understand though how addictive these sort of games are, like guild wars, i was really addicted to that, just because theres no end to what you can do, and titles on that game took an absolute age to achieve..
