I think it's a good choice for game of the year. It's not perfect, but it does a lot of things right. Having said that, I haven't played since I got my Halloween achievement, but I've been thinking about it. Intently.
This auction house is purely a test run for what they plan to bring out with Titan. They saw a lot of untapped revenue with the WoW "black market" and want their finger in all the pies from the get-go.
@endorbr Exactly. L.A. Noire was a great game, but it suffered from attempts to squeeze out another nickle, as well. Even the Badge Pursuit Challenge was used as a premium, where it was just a basic part of the game to push exploration. The DLC cases were just shaved off before being sent so we could sign up for the online version of the Social Club to see just what we hadn't paid for yet. If new desks had been created (burglary, fraud, etc.) and released as DLC, that would have been something worthy of buying.
Doesn't really hurt me that much. I never buy consoles at launch. Too much hassle. If Im going to plunk down $600 like a chump, and I probably AM a chump, then I'm waiting til there's a nice stable of proven games waiting for me to plow through. This whole thing does take off a little more of the respect/support/love I used to have for Sony, but most of that got hacked through during E3 anyway.
Monkey Island is a very big deal for me. I played lots of games back in the early 80s, but it wasn't until those first LucasFilm games that I really got a love for it. I still play them all! Even 4... I mean, I can't even imagine a world without the phrase "I'm here selling these fine leather jackets....."
