*bam bam clash* *ba-bam bam*
Right! Next week's Friday is the official release date of Wii in Finland. Oh yes! I'm waiting for this so much. On the other hand, I cannot play it that much during the weekend since I will have to study for 5 exams and finish my research stuff. Oh dear.
With my pre-order package I should get the following:
Wii + Wii Sports (with one wiimote and nunchuk)
Wii Play (with one wiimote)
+ since I'm not sure whether Wii Play comes with a nunchuk (I doubt), I probably have to buy another nunchuk as well
Yes, you read it right. I cancelled my Red Steel -order. The reason? Well, seeing so many reviews of its terrible flaws and bugs in playability, I see little reason to spend 59 euros for a game that I probably won't like at all. Too bad. The idea seemed so nice. It happened just like with Odama, I'd say.
Also, my girlfriend is going to visit me for a few days next weekend. It's very nice to be with her after such long period, thank the school activities for that. At least I have some real off-time during the christmas holiday, so I can load my batteries a bit.
That's about that.

Assignment 'n exams
by sokuni on Comments
Meh.
Meh it is. I have 6 exams before christmas, and before that I also have to finish a bunch of assignments, like an online course and a research proposal. Friggin...
Otherwise I have quite little time for all else. I play a bit of Oblivion every now and then just to have a short break of studying and writing. Yesterday I finished two assignments, did my physics homework sheet and also wrote some stuff to my research topic.
I should write a research proposal consisting of 20 pages approximately. (Since this is only for practice, it's a bit shorter. The real ones are closer to 40 pages.) So now I have to study and produce my own text to discuss the matter of computer worms. Gee, how lucky I am.
I just wait for the christmas. I can lay my mind off the studies for a while, and then play Wii with my girlfriend. I'm getting an extra controller on launch so that's about it. :)
I'm off now. Gotta do an assignment.
Grant me strength.

Yeah yeah...
Too much Oblivion lately. That topic is the result of it.
Anyways, I should complete a "draft zero" of my practice thesis proposal by next Monday, so I will have something to do during this weekend. I have also been thinking of cleaning my house properly today, like mopping the floor too.
And if I have time, I shall continue my adventures in the world of Oblivion, and Cyrodill. My first character is a Redguard, a blade warrior with restoration abilities. Quite a safe choice to learn to play the game. Nevertheless, this game is more addictive than a pack of cigarettes.
What else? Well, I'm fixing my previous graphics card by myself so wish me luck. I'm going to do a small power cable modification so I can fit a new cooler for it. Let's hope I won't screw up. :D
Other than that, nothing else.
Clang!

That's the way to do it.
I got myself a schedule for tonight then - which is to re-install Windows XP for my desktop PC. The reason for that is that it somehow blocks my all attempts to play online on any game. That's quite meh.
So in advance, I'm getting it work by re-installing. I've tried the wireless network on two other computers as well and they work fine, no problems. That's gotta be the solution.
Tomorrow I'm gonna buy myself a new proper PC chair. Aww...the comfort.
I can't wait.
Off now!

I got my math exam back.
I cannot describe the amount of relief I felt when I got my maths exam back. I got 3.5 (in the range of 0-5) and that's better that I could have even dreamt of. Joyful. :)
I also got Oblivion, I just installed it. And I am about to play it soon. Wish me luck.
Also I started to play Battlefield 2 online. Man it's good, and addictive. :)
I have another exam tomorrow, it should be easy though, but I'm gonna take a small peek what I should know and handle.
That's about that.
Boom.

A jagged alliance?

For me, I start to doubt a bit.
The things I'm talking about are those Wii -reviews of Gamespot. No matter the game, the score is just a ridiculous bunch, except a few games like Zelda and Super Monkey Ball. And to add this which everyone has said already, I thought Zelda would have got more.
The problem is, that GameSpot reviews Wii -games as comparison to Xbox360 and PS3. That's is out of league, since Wii is a completely different console than the two others. Would it be fair to compare a motor cycle to a monster truck? You should only compare the motor cycles and monster trucks to themselves! Of course, there's is really nothing to compare with Wii, but still I find it way too unfair.
The Wii -games are getting better scores outside this site. Is this an alliance? "Let us dislike Wii" or something like that? Or are the people at GS such oriented, that they simply just don't like the games? A review, after all, is just a based opinion of a single person.
Of course, I could speculate this from dawn to night, but I just feel a bit disturbed because of these reviews. The ratings those games get, are just so ridiculously low that they meant that if I played the game, my eyes would start to bleed. Usually a game with flaws gets something like 7.x and it will only go under that if there are some major problems that spoil the fun completely. Is it really this?
Oh, well...let's wait for more titles before doing any conclusions. Of course, since we are having a new console like this, the game developers have no former experience in making this kind of games, so the problem is that we will have to wait for them to learn how to make flawless games for Wii. In this case, the future would still seem bright.
I'm off to buy some foodie now.
Sheesh.

Finally.
Oh yes, I got my new GFX -card yesterday. I paid 95 euros for it, and it still has 2 years of warranty left in it. Also, I got two new games along with it and all the other bundle software, in top shape. Not a bad deal.
The bundled games are Deus Ex: Invisible War and Gun Metal. On the other hand, the card I bought is Asus V9999GE, which is actually the same as Nvidia Geforce 6800.
Asus V9999GE - 128mb - AGP
I tried to modify the card by opening the locked pipe and vertex unit. The vertex unit worked alright, which gave me a minor boost, but unlocking the extra pipe messes up the graphics a bit. So I guess I won't be using it. Too bad, it would have gave me a great boost. It's only about luck whether the card has a fully working pipe locked or not.
Anyway, this minor and cheap update multiplies my gaming performance with 1.5x. So not too bad. Next time I update, I will have to change about everything. That's because my motherboard has only AGP, and as top of that, it has only Socket 754. Not much of a choice.
This post was a bit hardware -oriented, but hey, I'm and IT student after all, eh? ;)
I also assembled a new PC for my friend, since his old one blew up. Man that machine packs a mean punch. It has AMD Athlon 64 3800+ and Gainward GeForce 7900GS. It is almost two times as fast as my computer, when it comes to gaming performance. A pretty cheap upgrade, but still very powerful. My friend is all tears of joy.
Off to a lecture now.

Not much.
Well, I finally found a 2nd hand copy of Oblivion from an online auction. It should arrive by Friday. Let's hope for that.
I'm having some mehhy troubles with this new GFX, which is only about getting one. It seems that I'm not buying the one I supposed since it would take so much time. I guess I have to look for an alternative source for that. Oh dear.
This shall be a shortie post then.
Me goes.

Finally about everything's done for today.
I attended a funeral. My mother's aunt's husband had passed away, so me and my mother honored his memory by being present in the occasion. He was also a war veteran, so I truly respect his effort in the past for the independent Finland. Thank you.
May he rest in peace.
...
Okay, to less-sad issues then. I watched the Wii marathon yesterday, and I liked what I saw. Wii Sports and Twilight Princess especially fed my interest. Such nice ways to use Wiimote.
Anything else? Umm, I'm still trying to find a second hand copy of Oblivion for my PC. In the meantime I wish my GFX -card arrives next week.
Also, my friend's PC blew up, so he asked me to assemble his new PC from new parts. I'm gonna get to test some wicked new technology. I'm eager.
Tea time!

Tic tac clock!
by sokuni on Comments
Umm. Yeah.
I did some light overclocking to that Radeon 9800pro within safety limits, so I only raised the GPU and MEM clocks a bit. I got a small boost of 7% in performance, although that card is able to overclock way more if wanted. The difficult thing in these "older" cards is, that they don't have any way to measure the temperature of the components.
Other than that, I think I'm getting a new GFX card here. Details I will cover later, but it will give me a nice bang for my buck. With the card, Oblivion should work like a dream. Although, maybe not on ALL full settings but quite nicely still. :)
School's making me meh. Too much work going on right now. I have to do a search assignment by the end of next week, and I should start with my practice thesis fairly soon too. Gack. Gotta just do it, I guess.
Other than this, I have no other stuff to say. I will blog again after I get some new stuff to report.
Attention! At ease.
EDIT: We could have a small quiz here. If you have knowledge of graphics cards, you could try guessing which card I'm getting, the manufacturer, model and probably some other info too. :) I will give hints over time.
