so i dreamed up a scenario in my head. i had no plot details planned. before i knew it, i was writing a short story. the ideas came so easily to me that i'm pretty sure i must have subconsciously acquired them from somewhere else.

it took me less than an hour to write this and maybe an additional 10 minutes to read over it. i'm well aware that it's full of mistakes, that it's low on character development, and that the overall concept is not very believable. and no, before you ask, i am not suicidal, despite whatever i say in the following text.

so yeah, i hope you guys enjoy this. it's probably really flawed but it's the first time i've wrote any short story since the last competition here. and it continues my reputation for being rather morbid.

enjoy.

The Edge

edit: wow. i really messed up the timeline of events in this story. i'm fixing them as we speak.
also, i guess i should mention - there's two F-bombs in the story. the first one is a mere vulgarity; the second one is in a sexual context. just a word of caution.
oh and yeah there are a LOT of problems with usage of past tense in this story, and i'm aware of that. if someone could point me in the right direction on those grounds, i'd be eternally grateful.
and the ending is very abrupt. i'm aware of that. i'd like some pointers in that area too, of course.

Ah, everyone has a mediocre piece every once in a while...iloveflash

it is possible to avoid this with the aid of a little thing called "perfectionism". ;)
nah, you're right though. it's just natural. crazy bursts of creativity always face imminent downfalls.

Buggadada boomshibooma.

KEEP THEM SAFE AND BY YOUR SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE
love that band.

but yeah. Giant Bomb was great because i was just getting really tired of GameSpot for one reason or another. i also preferred the blog system to GameSpot's sub-par editor, and blogging was the main thing i was interested in, so i took advantage of GB's superiority in that department. the forums were great originally but now they've all been destroyed, pretty much. so i'm here again, i guess. :D

looking forward to '09 indeed

.............

holy crap.
i'm too tired to finish this right now but it's freaking genius. i imagine you've heard of Ray Kurzweil. he's the guy who got me interested in this kind of futurism. and this story is brilliant.

re-introducing myself for great justice after several months of absence. Giant Bomb claimed my soul for a while and now i've realized just how cruel i was to abandon this website in the first place. hah. sorry gamespot

my name's Scott. i'm 15. i live in Southern California, but i was born in Britain and i lived there for 14 years. i'm new to the states. still getting over culture shock.

well, i've been writing for a while. not much recently, as my creativity has been at an all-time low. i used to write a hefty amount of reviews on this here GameSpot, and back in the days when Community Contributions was still alight with awesomeness, several of my works were featured in ReviewSpotting. looking back on them, i'm not sure why, as a sense of embarrassment flares to life every time i read my older ones. i consider my best review ever to be my review for Final Fantasy X, which was the most recent one i have penned. it was several months back, but i still feel i encapsulated my feelings about that game in about a thousand words. so yeah.

i'm working on a novel. exciting, huh? it feels good to be able to say that, as for the last 2 years i've had the ideas for this novel swimming around my head but i've never actually written anything down until now. i still haven't started a draft, but i have all of my basic ideas down, and my character designs finished, and y'know, all the other elementary building blocks you need to form the backbone of a good story. it's a fantasy, although not your garden-variety high fantasy whose only accomplishment is stealing as many ideas from Lord of the Rings to fill an entire new high fantasy book. more on that later, i'll probably be posting some very early, unfinished, rough builds of the first few chapters in the union as i go. i even signed up for one of those handy google documents accounts that i see floating around everywhere! isn't that a convenient website. i love you, technology.

anyway, yeah. if that was just tl;dr for you, i'll rephrase: i'm 15, i'm a US resident, i used to review a lot of things, and i'm writing a novel. well, working on one anyway. some other random assorted trivia to tickle your fancy: i play 5 instruments to varying degrees, listen to music almost constantly (i'm sure i saw a Mars Volta fan around here if usernames are anything to go by ;)) and i also run cross country and track & field. i'm into a lot of PC and PS2/PS1 games recently, namely Guild Wars and a heady dose of Final Fantasy.

wow that was long. clearly there's more text floating around my head than i originally predicted. :| i'm back for good this time, anyway. now i'll stop acting like jesus and go to bed or something.
edit: i bolded the "tl;dr" notice. that really is a lot of stuff to digest about a stranger you don't care about, so i conveniently pointed you to the basics. ;)
