Why would they be concerned that how much you can earn offline might impact multiplayer, when you can just buy the same thing? That doesnt make any sense. In both scenarios you are upgrading by not playing the online mode, but the one where you pay instead of play is more acceptable?

@xnshd: Why give him the 7 mil? Make him fight it out and prove his case.

@bdrtfm: Nope,, not desperate at all. I have no doubt that he will find work, but there are many that will think twice before hiring him. He has weakened his status in the industry and lost much of what he gained with this film.

@bdrtfm: And that's a fair reply, thank you.

My point was that the gross earnings were irrelevant to whether he is entitled to a bonus or not. It all depends on the contract he signed. Nothing else matters. However, his success does give him leverage on negotiating his next contract, which he has likely now all but ruined with the lawsuit. You dont go back and renegotiate after the fact. You use your leverage on the next deal.

@bdrtfm: As soon as he launched legal action against the company he became a problem. Every lawyer they have employed will now say he is too big of a liability to work with any further. Regardless of past successes, they cant take that risk.

@bdrtfm: There are other directors that can do the same. And just because he had a hit this time, doesnt mean he will have a hit next time. Ridding your company of problem people like this is far more beneficial to your success in the long run.

@bdrtfm: Irrelevant. That's why everyone signs a contract.

@bdrtfm: If a bonus is based on certain benchmarks and achievements, then they should absolutely not pay out. If they do, it undermines all future bonus incentives. Be honest up front and keep your word, that's how you keep employees happy. Once you break that structure, then every time you dont pay them a bonus, they will feel slighted and take it personal, even if it is unjustified. If he still feels entitled even though he didnt achieve the benchmark agreed upon, then parting ways is probably best. A self-entitled employee is a problem in the making. It's not like there is no one else that can fill his role.

@bdrtfm: He spent his bonus by going over budget. Why should he be rewarded for failing to meet the conditions of the contract? He has already been paid fairly for the work he did.
