Lost sales!? Why would a consumer spend less money for a used game? Because its a cheaper used game!! Do you really not understand that if that customer enjoys the game--regardless of how it is purchased--this person is more likely to purchase DLC or the next installment in the franchise. Also word of mouth from a new fan moves more units than any advertisement.
You need to get over your ignorant sense of self-entitlement that allows you to believe any used sales would go to the developer-publisher if used games did not exist.
Whatever geek. Its funny how people that work with technology assume they can control how it will affect and evolve in society. Technology will always win!
Maybe if companies lowered the price of a game after its "peak sales period" (usually 3 months), you could sell a new game to the consumer, or lose money and complain when it does not sell a year after release for 60 bucks.
