[QUOTE="lebanese_boy"]I think you're right sufian, Nintendo needs to act and fast. The casual games are not going to last long enough so they need to re-inforce their Hardcore games librairy on the Wii to be able to sell even more Wiis for a longer timeframe.REVOLUTIONfreak
I don't think so. Diversity is what made Nintendo's reputation. If they were making no games but Metroid, Zelda and Mario games (for example), they would lose a huge part of their audience. Didn't you watch E3 Nintendo's press conference? Nintendo's attracting many casual gamers with different interactive games such as Wii Sports and Brain Age. If they were focusing only on the hardcore gamers that followed Nintendo since the very beginning, then, and only then, they would be doomed.
With the Wii, the DS and all its interactive games (Wii Sports, Brain Age, Wii Fit etc.), Nintendo is getting a constantly growing audience of casual gamers. Microsoft and Sony aren't; they will, sooner or later, hit a wall and realize that their hardcore Xbox and PS fans weren't enough to make them move forward in the devellopment of their industry.
I don't think the press conference had happend at the time he posted that. :P I do agree with you though, the casual stuff is the reason Wii is so successful. While we sometimes hate the casual crap they spit out, we often forget that Nintendo is just as much a business as that great company the fanboy inside of us likes so much. I think murlow definitely right though, and I can relate. Part of the reason why I sometimes defend Nintendo is just because I'm such a fan of their franchise and business ethics, but in reality I disagree with what they are doing just as much as a normal gamer probably would. At some point, we just need to stop and realize that the point of video games is to have fun playing them, regardless of what console they are on. I admit that when I first bought my 360 I felt like I was betraying Nintendo... but it eventually passed, especially after I bought the Wii :PFirst of murlow is that the name of the character in "Super Maro RPG; Legend of The Seven Stars". Actually guys I would have still posted this after E3 because I don't think Nintendoreally addressed the problem. I should mention that I'm in now way against the whole casual game concept to attract new audiences, quite the contrary I heavily condone it (makes good business sense for Nintendo). What I'm saying is that Nintendo can't just turn their back on hardcore fans because I believe they are the best system seller Nintendo has in its stable to moveconsoles.
The Wii is really ignoring the competition following their own road. While that makes good strategic sense given the basis of their console and its technological limitations. However it really hinders their ability to match competition in the way we are used to. I mean their only move which can be attributed as a defensive move is the launch dates for holiday season to combat the competition. The veteran Nintendo fan like many of us here are is not ready to sit by and support Nintendo if all their efforts are going to be focused towards new audiences. I mean as much as I like Nintendo, the notion that they think they can focus on new groups and leave me in the dust is unacceptable and just plain bugs me.
I don't want a full line up of the major titles, I want some new fresh ideas like Pikmin, Pokemon and the likes, plus I want them to be able to match at least some of the third party exclusives flying around on the 360/ PS3. It will get annoying when every 3rd party game can't be made for the Wii, not so much or me because I own the other systems but for the rest of the people.
It's a shame that an idea as intuitive and advanced be used to bring about such lazy and in most caseslame (I'll pass judgment on Wii fitness until it actually launches, it seems fascinating to say the least) ideas for games. All I'm saying is that this time around Nintendo has the potential to match competition in theconventional sense and adhere to new audiences with their casual games; all they need to do is balance and not sway too much in one direction.
Leb your statement about the veterans leaving Nintendo behind for lack of diversity echoes exactly what I think will happen if Nintendo focus too much on casual.
