I also own both, PS3 and 360, and I think the PS3 is a much better system. It has better games and controller. I never understood why some people said that 360 controller is better.

All the 360 has is Halo, Gears and Forza, while the PS3 has many new games (IPs) and there's more coming next year. All the 360 is getting in 2013 is a new Gears which is a rehash, therefore you may want to rethink your Christmas list when you've written Xbox 360 on it. Scribble it out.

You are uninformed if you think all PC has is educational games and crappy games. PC is getting exclusives all the time, everyday, and they all are found in Steam. Look it up and you'll see a ton of great games to play. All multiplatform games are on PC and they are way superior compared with console versions.

Viruses? Well, if you're having problems with viruses, your basic computer skills is in level of an elderly person. You should get a good anti-virus software (get a free one), spare of your time to update it and run an occasional scan in every month or 2. If you're unable to perform these simple tasks, stick with consoles.

If your game is slow and freezing on your PC, it's a great indication of something. You know what? Poor hardware performance. Or you can try to lower your graphical settings.

Console gaming is more expensive, and this is a fact. Their games are ridiculously overpriced and the hardware is very unreliable; you'd end up buying a new console every 2 years.

There's another option, although this one probably is less appealing. They are going to offer a subsidized Xbox 360 4GB with Kinect for $100, but you have to sign up for a 2 year contract for Xbox Live at $14.99 per month. Basically, you are buying an Xbox like you would buy a cell phone. If she's got an issue with monthly fees then this option might be less desirable for her.

The $60 a year option isn't bad, though. That's basically the price of one game and you get 12 months of service. It's actually a little bit cheaper than a game because you don't have to pay sales tax on it if you buy it online from Microsoft.
