Ridley Scott's Gladiator Is Overrated

I watched it last night, and I just cannot seem to understand how this film ever won Best Picture at the Oscars. The story was just predictable from start to finish, and the similarities it had to Mel Gibson's Braveheart really bugged me. I guess the directors and producers of both those films are just very lucky. The characters were dull and depressing. The use of CGI to show expansive views of Rome was just pointless. The characters were decent, if anything. Russell Crowe was awesome as Maximus, as always. Joaquin Phoenix was pretty cool, but that was only because his character was a total wimp who was into incest and that just made me laugh. :P In the end, the film was just ridiculous. Laughter was all I could let out in response to most of the film.

I watched My Own Private Idaho a few days ago. I didn't really pay enougha attention during the film because I was watching it with a friend and we were just laughing at most of the film. It was well structured and quite enjoyable. I need to watch it a second time for it to really sink in, though. Keanu Reeves is still a terrible actor, whereas River Phoenix is awesome. I wish he didn't die. :(

Lately, I have been listening to a lot of Arcade Fire. I started listening to Neon Bible and find it to be a great album. It's just the fact that I have a tough time hearing the band over the vocals that holds me back from saying that it's just as amazing as Funeral. Maybe it's just my darn ears. :( Still, it's a great listen.

I finally finished God of War III on Titan difficulty last night. Well, I gave up because I just got sick of dying in the Labyrinth, the final Cerberus fight and the last Zeus battle. So, Pretzel took the controller off me. Technically, he finished it. But hey, he volunteered. Plus, I did most of it. :P Just have to get one more trophy and I'll have my third platinum trophy. :)

My brothers might be getting two more games tomorrow. I got Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition in the mail last Monday. I won't play it until I've got some other games done though, because it has a friggin' 7GB upload. :( Romesh might be getting Batman: Arkham Asylum: Game of the Year Edition, and Pretzel might be getting either Battlefield: Bad Company 2 or Red Dead Redemption. :D

I finally found Reservoir Dogs on Foxtel while eating lunch today. Might just watch that tonight. :) I also found The Usual Suspects, Patton and a few other films. Got so much to watch these holidays!

I guess that's all for now. Thanks for reading!

So Close to the End

My first semester of university will end on Tuesday at approximately... 10:30 AM, take a few minutes if I'm lucky. :P I have my Marketing 100 exam at 8:30 AM, and I just can't wait for it to end. This semester has been absolute hell for me. I have not adapted to university very well and I just need this break so badly. I'm absolutely sick of all these ups and downs I've been having for the past few months. Also, it means I can finally plug my PS3 back in! :D

Mom said I can buy a game on this week, so I'm hoping that God of War III has had a slight price drop. I really want to get both God of War Collection and God of War III in one go. I haven't played the first two games in a long time, and am so stoked to replay my two favourite games. Also, Pretzel might get Red Dead Redemption for me during his holidays, as long as he can play too. :P

I'm pretty sure I failed Business Information Systems 100. I'd been slack with that subject all semester. Computers and business are both boring individually, but they're worse as a couple. I'll have to retake the unit next semester, so hopefully I can motivate myself this time around. >.> Other than that, Economics 100 went extremely well to my surprise, and so did Business Law 100.

Besides studying and exams, I haven't gotten up to much. I watched a few movies, and I've been listening to a lot of music as I have come to do so lately. :P Here are the films I watched.

The Thing

Pulp Fiction

Fargo

I've listened to two new albums as of late.

Arcade Fire's Funeral

Symphony X's Paradise Lost

I'm in love with both albums, to be honest. Funeral is just beautiful music, and Paradise Lost is absolutely Godly.

Also, I hopped on Photoshop after a few days and made a new sig.

Tell me what you guys think of it. I really need to get a 360 soon. The Elites have gone down to $250!:o

That's it for now!

Chris, You Just Made My Day

My friend, Chris, and I are talking on MSN right now. I was just complaining about this year's E3, especially with the major changes they've made to Cole MacGrath in inFamous 2. Below is what he looked like in the first game.

Below is what he looks like now.

What the **** happened to him?! I'm really concerned about Sucker Punch's direction with this game right now. I know that either way, they'll pull off a really good game, but it is an odd move to change the appearance of the main character. They seem to be trying to make him more like Nathan Drake now.

I know that Cole isn't the most likeable character, what with his appearance and personality, but copying certain traits from a more successful character isn't right.

Anyways, this brings me to what Chris said that made my day (so far). He brought up Metal Gear Solid: Rising, and I instantly started complaining about it. Here's a snippet from our conversation:

- Kittey™ [Chris] says:

  • risings trailer made me laugh
  • at the end
  • ahah

****ING IPODS! HOW DO THEY WORK??? (STUDYINGGGGGGGGGGG) [Moi] says:

  • lol
  • it looks good
  • for a ninja gaiden game >.>

- Kittey™ says:

  • more like

****ING IPODS! HOW DO THEY WORK??? (STUDYINGGGGGGGGGGG) says:

  • but wait

- Kittey™ says:

  • ninja RAIDEN GAME
  • =D

I LOL'd and then high fived him.:D

Sorry Raiden, but you fail.

Well, not really. You just don't compare to this old dog.

By the way, God of War: Ghost of Sparta is looking mad!:D

That's all on E3 from me, to be honest. On a side note, I'd like to welcome LD back to GameSpot. Welcome back, LD! :)

I've got my Business Information Systems exam in... 7 hours and 20 minutes! D: Wish me luck!

I Knew It Was You

First off, thank you to everyone who took their time to leave a comment with words of support in my last blog. My life's not been too well in the past couple of weeks, and I've been struggling with university. I'm trying my best to pull myself together now and work as hard as I can. Thank you all. :)

The title of this blog is in reference to the bio-documentary, I Knew It Was You.

It features interviews with the few actors and directors who were fortunate enough to work with the highly underrated actor, John Cazale. Out of the three films I have seen of his (him only having acted in five throughout his, unfortunately, short career), I fail to understand why he had never been nominated for an Oscar at least once. He deserved a nomination for his performances in The Godfather Part II and Dog Day Afternoon. One of my favourite moments from the latter film - where Sonny (Pacino) approaches Sal (Cazale) and asks him what country he would like to go to, and Sal replies "Wyoming" - was revealed to be completely improvised. How the **** was he not nominated?!

I watched two more films in the past few days. I watched Jerry Maguire and Barton Fink. Odd how both are named after their main characters. :P

Jerry Maguire was a fun film to watch. I watched because I wanted to see at least one of Cameron Crowe's works prior to Almost Famous, which I recently borrowed out from the university library. I love the film, and I love Tom Cruise's performance in it. I just don't understand one thing though; how did Cuba Gooding Jr. not only get a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars, but ACTUALLY(!!!) win? There was nothing - I repeat, NOTHING! - special or unique about his performance. Yet the Academy saw him fit to take home a friggin' Oscar? Unbelievable... :| If Gooding Jr. gets an Oscar, Cruise damn well should have won one too.

Barton Fink was a strange film. It's the only surreal film I have seen of the Coen brothers to date (I have only seen three of their works). I might as well admit that I love John Goodman in both Barton Fink and The Big Lebowski, especially the latter. My favourite character from the film was easily Jack Lipnick (Michael Lerner), though. The film was a tad reminiscent of The Shining, in that it has a writer (this one being for film) slowly losing his mind in a hotel. Fortunately, there is no blonde kid screeching "REDRUM" repeatedly, to the point where I actually contemplate mur-dahhh! At one point, I was expecting John Goodman's character to be a mere figment of Fink's imagination, but it turned out he was not. O, the things Fight Club does to me. I did not quite understand a couple of the events near the end of the film, and I've decided to cheat as I have already deleted the film. I must say that that hotel, especially Fink's room, reminded me of room 1408 from the Stephen King short story, 1408. Overall, it was an amazing little film by the Coen brothers.

I guess that's it for now. I'll probably watch another movie if I have time to do so before my exams. My exams start on Tuesday and end the following Tuesday. Can't wait to plug my PS3 back in! :D

Other than that, I'm out!

I Think I'm Depressed

I haven't really been happy in about two weeks. I've had a couple of days where I was, but they soon went away. I have my first exam on Tuesday. I haven't even studied. I've spent about a week on a fifteen page chapter of Economics; I still haven't finished it.

My parents ask me how I'm going with my studies. I lie and tell them I'm doing good. I get my parents to drop me off at university on the weekends. I do that to get away from them. I can't stand my parents, especially my dad.

I'm scared of failing my first semester of university, yet I cannot motivate myself to work. I never wanted to study Commerce; I wanted to do Architecture. My parents have a say in everything to do with my life. I don't like that but I've never done anything against it.

I don't feel like I'm worth much. People ask me for help and I do the best I can. I feel good when I help people. A lot of them don't thank me though. Remember how I went off about my "friend", Brandon, and how he asked me for help on a Marketing assignment on the day before it was due? He got a higher mark than me, and I finished mine a week before the due date. *Sigh*

I've had several urges to hurt myself. I don't cut, that's not my thing. I punch my head and, sometimes, tug at my facial features. I promised I wouldn't do that any more. I plan on keeping that promise (for once).

I haven't got anything else to say. I hope you all are doing well.

Bye.

I Thought You Might Be Worried...

About the security... of your ****.

God-****in'-dammit! I think that's Brad Pitt's best performance ever. I watched Burn After Reading a couple of days ago. That film is too grand. It's not the best work by the Coen brothers, but it was schweet. Haven't cried in laughter in a LONG time.

What does it take to make a perfect film? Well, it takes great actors like Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci; check! It also takes an amazing director like Martin Scorsese; check! (This is a very simplified view, of course) I'm talking about Raging Bull. I finally watched it a few nights ago, and I'm just wondering why I put it off for so long. I think this is my favourite Scorsese film to date. Then again, I've only seen three of his numerous works, but they are supposedly his three best. I think that I enjoyed the film so much not because of De Niro and Pesci's awesome performances, nor Scorsese's masterful direction, but because I could sympathise with LaMotta (De Niro). Every time LaMotta brokedown and cried, cursing his imperfection and inflicting self-harm, it - to some extent - mirrored moments in my life during the past few years. I think this film is one of my all-time favourites.

I watched Dog Day Afternoon last night, so I have now seen kingkilla3's favourite film. *Feels special* I need to watch more of Lumet's work. Honestly, I do. Out of the few performances I've seen of Al Pacino - being Godfather Part I and II, as well as this - I think this is my favourite. Sonny Wortzik is such a unique character, and so well acted by Pacino. It was great to see Pacino with John Cazale once more too. Once more, I think this is one of my all-time favourites.

Other films I've seen in the past few weeks are Mulholland Drive (another of kingkilla3's favourites), WALL-E, and Fight Club.

No, I did not understand Mulholland Drive, which is why I did not delete it from my recorded films list. I'll have to watch it once or twice more, and may even have to cheat at some point.

WALL-E was awesome. End of story.

Fight Club was also awesome. It's not David Fincher's best film, mostly because it relies heavily on the "I've-not-slept-in-a-while-and-am-picturing-half-these-things" card. It felt like a cheap plot twist to me, and it just didn't feel right. Don't get me wrong, I love the film; I just didn't like the reasoning behind a lot of the events in the film.

I rented out Almost Famous during the week. I'll be watching it soon. I also recorded Scent of a Woman; the film Pacino finally won Best Actor for at the Oscars.

That is all. Here, have some Meatloaf.

I'm starting to feel

We stay together out of fear
Of dying alone

I've been slipping through the years
My old clothes don't fit like they once did
So they hang like ghosts of the people I have been

It's like my heart can't be tamed
And I fall in love every day
And I feel like a fool

I have to face the truth
That no one could ever look at me like you do
Like I'm something worth holding onto

There's times I think of leaving
But it's something I'll never do
Because you can do better than me
But I can't do better than you

Someday you will be loved...

You'll be loved, you'll be loved
Like you never have known
And the memories of me
Will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs, like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

I made some new sigs.

People think that the focal in the second sig is "overblended", and that the text is too small. Meh.
