hey this is one of the only threads i could find on this subject, my question is 42" 750p Plasma tv vs 42" 1080p LCD. ive heard that plasmas sometimes get "burn in" but ive met people who have had their plasma tvs for a long time with no problems. so my question is really almost plasma vs lcd... can anyone give me some good info?
Edit: Also the plasma has a "gaming mode" not sure if its 120 ghz, but the lcd does not have a gaming mode and it is 60ghz.

Hey,
I also am in the market for buying a new TV as I just got the money to afford one. At my parents house they have a both a plasma and an LCD. I have played my 360 and now my ps3 on the plasma more often because I personally love plasmas over LCDs. Plasmas are usually 600hz compared to 60hz and have a refresh rate of around 2 ms compared to 5 ms for LCDs. Burn in is no longer an issue, but it would be best to not game for the first 100 hours of the TVs life just to make sure as this is when the TV is most vulnerable. Again though, I have logged thousands of hours on a plasma playing games and have never experienced an issue.
When doing research for my TV for my new place, I came to a few conclusions. The first is that plasma would be better for me. Although they got the bad rap in the beginning about having burn in issues, they are in my opinion superior for gaming. The response time is a lot quicker, and since when I am not playing video games I am watching sports, motion blur would be a huge issue. Most LCDs, including 120hz tvs have some motion blur. If this would be an issue for you steer clear of LCDs. If not, or you don't notice it on certain TVs then go for it. Secondly, I would not jump for 1080p unless money is not an issue. Buying 1080p is only an investment for the future, as it is suported in only a small fraction of the content you will be watching. Most video games will upconvert, as will your HD cable or satellite. The only true source of 1080p usually is blu ray. Obviously you will probably watch a few if you have a ps3, but even then the difference is minimal at this size (I am an electronics freak and have an eye for this stuff, and so do the people at cnet if you want a second opinion.)
Bottom line, it is up to you. Most people who game like LCDs, but I prefer plasma. Consider motion blur, and make sure you study the TVs in the store. While the TVs are adjusted for the harsh lighting of the store and not the room your TV is going to end up in, ultimately it is up to your eye to decide which you like best.
