You might not need to reinstall but you will need to reactivate. Bear this in mind if you have an OEM licence.

I'll second Speedfan, my apologies but I also assumed it was GPU because you said nVidia :(

Are you sure all the RAM is working properly and is it seated properly. IIRC putting 3 sticks in should just default to single channel and run as normal. I think only the new chipset for the i7 is capable of running 3 sticks in triple channel mode. For dual channel you need even numbers of sticks.

Sounds like the temperature monitor might not be detecting the temperature properly but just double check as I'm not sure whether the system would allow it to climb that high without shutting down. http://www.download3k.com/System-Utilities/System-Maintenance/Download-hardware-sensors-monitor.html might have wha you're looking for but I can't say for sure as I've never used it.

The PSU is way over what you need. A true 500W would do just fine. No need for an aftermarket CPU cooler unless you plan to overclock or wish to reduce noise.

For the usage pattern you listed a laptop should do you just fine. Make sure it has got either an nVidia or ATi chip in it though and not just the Intel integrated one.

Daytona you should get a medal, I've never seen the debate expressed so well. There is precious little reason to use a Mac over PC. These days it is all about personal preference if you choose a Mac whereas there are compelling reasons to choose Windows over the Mac.
