I have a Creative Xmod. CMSS really doesn't work the way you would expect, am I right? If you really think about it you might be able to place sounds in different places but if you're anything like me it only seems to place sounds going over the top of the head along the headband axis and not in front or behind. It sounds this way because it is trying to simulate surround sound by adding echoes, delays and signal processing to try and fool your brain into thinking the sounds are coming from elsewhere; something which it does not excel at. I'm afraid that you probably won't get the desired effect from CMSS.

Well there are better choices but after the price bracket that the beyers are in you really do need to go try some out to see what you think as any recommendation of one set over another at that price is going to be very personal and tied in heavily to that listeners audio experience and general preference for how things should sound. Basically you probably won't find much of a night and day difference and you will find that your money buys less of an improvement. What is it that you don't like about the sound from the beyers? Also, does your surround system have anything like a night mode that might make night time gaming a bit easier? I myself have the same problem and the night mode on my amp kills some of the bass and makes certain frequencies louder so you can have the overall sound volume lower. I'm afraid I can't comment on surround headphones from a first hand standpoint, at least not recent ones as I haven't found a pair that provides any direct competition to the 5.1 system. This thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/headphones-headphone-amps/123015-5-1-headphones.html might help though. Oh and sorry about that last post I realise now I came off sounding like a complete ass but it was supposed to sound like a bit of a humerous dig lol. Imagine the first line with a "lol" and a winking smiley on the end.

Pretty much anything with a VGA, DVI or HDMI input will do the job just fine these days. If you can't consider plasma then the small difference in contrast ratios between manufacturers isn't going to make a noticable difference unless you go looking for the problem.

Well chances are if you were really into gaming you would have said "5.1" and gone out and bought a decent surround system. Also, there's not a thing wrong with the mic built into headphones and they are much more convenient. If you are after a straight up pair of 2 channel cans then I haven't heard much better than the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro. What's your budget for a pair of headphones?

I have one of these http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_contents.php?pno=sg02 3 case fan points with low noise fans will vent the heat and there is enough room for a full size power supply with 12cm fan. CPU cooler is http://zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=168 and there's plenty of room for it. I also have a 4870 with a quiet cooler in there too. All in all it's a great case.

Depends, are you happy with 2 channel sound or do you want 5.1? Do you often talk to people on multiplayer? In the ear, on the ear or over the ear? Lively sound, lots of bass or accurate reproduction? Just some of the questions people need answers to in order to recommend anything.

If you really want to spend some money then try the Pioneer 112-D or whatever it's modern equivalent is. I have used it solidly for a few years (I think?) and not had any problems. Also try the other suggestions, updating the firmware isn't usually difficult and read some reviews on decent discs that don't break the bank. Personally I use A-ONE discs and haven't had a coaster yet.

No idea without the model number; does it matter if you have already purchased the item in question? In any case, just about any TV that can display 720p is acceptable for gaming these days.
