Did you try running the PC with only the old RAM? If so what happened? Also, was service pak 3 loaded at the time of the new installation or later on after other things had been loaded? I am only asking because there have been issues with SP3 when it is loaded after the fact. Also, are you a 100% sure your mother board will support the new ram?

I'm no expert, but before any analysis can be made, we need to know what the make up of your system is. Meaning what is the size and make of the power supply, GPU, CPU, ETC, ETC. Also, can we understand that your system was running fine before the ram update?

Checked bios version and it reverted back to the origional. Tried to update again and got a check sum error. Version continuiously reverts back to origional. I believe this MB may be defective as it will not hold an update when initalized. Will have to return and try another.

Are there known issues with this mother board? If so and I have to return it can you recommend a quality replacement board?

Just built a system using a Q6600 chip on an MSI P35 neo2-fr mother board with 4 gigs of ram and a 4850 ati graphics card. I am currently using 2 brand new 500 gig drives set up to duel boot into XP Pro, or Vista Ultima. That being said, I was under the impression that the system would utilize, or at least show 4 cores in task manager, or at least in the bios. Seems that no matter what OS I boot into, only 2 cores are ever shown. I have done a clean install as this is a new system, and have updated the bios. Any thoughts on how to make this machine work properly? Also, has anyone else run into this problem using this mother board.

Ok, so since I have all new equipment and a new mother board, with my fresh install of XP pro I should see all 4 cores in task Manager. Correct? Would it matter if I installed service pak 3? Since I am not showing all 4 cores, does this mean I am not utilizing 2 cores? Even cpu-z only shows 2. I'm confused.

The system is brand new with a fresh install of XP Pro service pak 3. I have updated the bios, and all other drivers. Puzzling, isn't it?

I am familiar with the bios, but what exactly am I looking for in order to enable all cores? I thought that was pretty much automatic when the system boots.

Why if I am running a quad q6600, does task manager only show 2 cores?
