Honestly, its the same reason anyone buys a console...the games. They want to play the games...even if they are not around till late 08, they want them.

I'm picturing someone who doesn't bother to play Halo and Grand Theft Auto because of the casual appeal and them being "over-rated".

While I agree hardcore gamers play more obscure games, they still neglect other ones.

Well that you described is a dumb ass who is neglecting good games. I enjoy mostly hardcore games, but I also enjoy GH, GTA and other casual games because I know they are great games. Hardcore gamers taste should be broader since they are more into gaming.

Hardcore gamers are just nerds trying to act like their lifestyle is superior to others. Of course this is a generatlization, and I don't have a problem with nerds, its true.

Pretty much, if you're a "hardcore" gamer, you're missing out on some of the best games of the generation.
