Seeing how Chinese people are flocking to Black Myth Wukong, Ubi should focus on making an Assassin's Creed game set in China, preferably with Japanese soldiers as the enemies.I guarantee it will sell like hot cakes.

They are. Assassin's Creed Jade, set in the Qin dynasty.

I am talking about the battles of Tsushima and Iki islands themselves, which were Japanese defeats. Hell, the second invasion, the Yuan defeated the Japanese there again and then hit another storm.

Okay, I see what you mean. Yeah, the Yuan/Mongols wiped the floor with the Japanese samurai at Tsushima and Iki before the kamikaze storm. However, the game does show the Mongols initially defeating the Japanese at Tsushima. So not sure where the historical inaccuracy is?

The inaccuracy comes with the resistance being the reason why they kicked them off the island instead of the invasion of Japan itself being a failure. The Khan character in the game is total fiction as well.

@texasgoldrush: Ghost of Tsushima and AC Shadows are two centuries apart. Meaning one is based on the Mongolian invasion era and the other is based Azuchi-Momoyama era. Not sure why you said that is inaccurate but hey, you do you.

Ghost of Tsushima was criticized for being historically anachronistic. Basically, they took historical elements from later periods of Japanese history (like the 16th and 17th centuries) and anachronistically incorporated them into 13th-century Japan (Mongol invasion era). They took some creative liberties by mixing and matching different periods of Japanese history.

The game also tries to spin a massive Japanese defeat as a victory. The Yuan steamrolled the Japanese on Tsushima and Iki. They was no rebellion and counterattack. The Yuan left as they were defeated in Japan.

How were they Japanese defeats? While the Mongols/Yuan were streamrolling the Japanese initially, the Mongols got unlucky when they got hit by a kamikaze storm, allowing the Japanese to snatch victory from defeat.

Hate to be the "Steam guy" on here, but I can't help but think that being on Steam day one helped a lot here.

I have a Ubisoft subscription, though, so that's how I got it. But I still think sales would be a lot lower.

Sadly, Steam doesn't track Ubisoft accounts nor does it track Ubisoft+ subs, we really won't know for sure until we hear the sales reports. Steam is never really good at connecting other accounts such as EA, Xbox, or Ubisoft.

Hope they learn from this.

So you're mad that there's a 🥷🏿er in your game? And you don't want anymore 🥷🏿ers in your game? Is that it?

I think they're just addicted to the outrage machine and the fake culture war.

Umm, not saying anything about culture stuff but the Japanese people aren't really happy with what Ubisoft has done to the game and didn't do a proper job mixing with Japanese culture with Chinese culture. Sucker Punch on the other hand really works alongside Japanese people ensuring it pays proper respects.

Having Yasuke in the game isn't the problem, Japanese historians don't have any records of Yasuke being even a Samurai to begin with. His records have been lost for centuries. Overall, I'm enjoying the game, but I feel Ghost of Tsushima still gets it right with the environments staying true to Japan's culture and it has better righting than AC Shadows but what Shadows has is great gameplay. Still have a long way to go.

Ghosts of Tsushima is more historically inaccurate than Shadows.

You're comparing apples to oranges here, especially when Ubisoft have their own PC service separate from Steam. A better comparison would be AC Valhalla:

Valhalla - 15,679 Steam CCU (peak)

Shadows - 47,616 Steam CCU (first day)

Shadows is doing much better than Valhalla on Steam. Keep in mind that Valhalla went on to gross $1 billion (including all revenue streams).

Do you honestly think Shadows will sell anywhere near Vahalla?

Keep in mind Steam has grown substantially since 2020.

Looking at the numbers, it looks like Shadows is trending towards outselling Valhalla. The controversy may have dampened the mood around the game, but keep in mind AC fans have been waiting well over a decade for this game. Controversy isn't going to kill all that anticipation.

And again, keep in mind that Ubisoft have their own PC store. Steam isn't the only PC store selling the game. Shadows is being sold on a number of other PC stores, yet still significantly outperformed Valhalla on Steam.

Ubi has their own subscription service.

Now that you mention it, I remember hearing about a Fengshen Cinematic Universe.

The are two very good animation studios in China.....Chengdu Coco Cartoon, who does the Fengshen movies, and Light Chaser, who did the White and Green Snake movies, the New Gods movies, one with Nezha and one with Yang Jian (or Erlang Shen), as well as 30,000 Miles to Chang'an.

Jiang Ziya was both a real general and a mythical figure. He overthrow the Shang dynasty and gave rise to the Zhou.

@miquella: Not a bad idea. A Ne Zha game would sell loads in China. But considering how long Wukong took to make, a Ne Zha game could take years to develop. A DLC for Wukong would be cheaper and quicker. And then they can make a proper Ne Zha game after that.

It is rumored Jiang Ziya is next.
