@davillain: It becoming the highest grossing animated movie is somewhat of a shock as Chinese movies in general have never made over $1 billion at this point before Ne Zha 2. The movie actually more than doubled the next highest grossing Chinese movie. It wasn't just the Lunar holiday, the Chinese people really connected to this film. It is historic.

Nezha 2 actually takes a few shots at American foreign policy with its villains.....lol

...That makes me more interested to check it out, lol.

Its subtle, you have to look for it, like the Chen Sect token having an American eagle insignia for example.

Glazing China whenever he can.

Funny thing is, Ne Zha was in Smite (Western made game) for a long time, and no one cared. It's just so weird that people care now, simply because China made a high grossing movie with the character...

They have made multiple with the character, he was always big in China. The movie made in the 70's was also well known. The first movie was also a big hit.

The sequel is by far China's highest grossing movie ever. This is a gamechanger. The West is so stunned there are barely any critic reviews on RT. The audience score of 99% tells the tale.

@R4gn4r0k: I dunno, it looks like they canceled their China based games too. It sounds like a company that isn't very serious or wasn't able to think ahead about decisions they made, and now they want to get out.

Where Winds Meet was hugely successful. 15 million players.

That is not successful for a F2P game launching in China, and now people have negative feelings around it due to the controversy of promoting an underage character on Valentine's day with romantic text associated. They claimed it was a mistake due to AI text being generated and used for promotion.

This company is not cautious at all and does not even care about what they are putting out there. Just make a brash decision to generate it and don't look just click Publish.

However, the caution around Marvel Rivals was warranted. It was a surprise success.

From what I have seen, I would be surprised if this company made something successful too. I'm not sure I see how they exercised caution around Marvel Rivals.

No, 15 million is good for China only.

Where Winds Meet is a hit and overall has positive reception.

And Marvel Rivals was always at risk of bombing, like Concord. Remember, Avengers flopped.

It seems Quantic Dream may get closed.

@texasgoldrush: So...is Ne Zha 2 an original story, or just a straight retelling of Journey to the West?

You implied in another thread that it was really bold of the Black Myth Wukong developers to remix Journey to the West, so I'd be surprised if Ne Zha 2 was also some kind of original story. You made it sound like nobody has ever tried telling Journey to the West before.

The movie is a loose adaptation of Investiture of the Gods, another Ming era novel. But Ne Zha is also in Journey to the West. This Nezha movie line also has a Jiang Ziya spinoff, also Investiture of the Gods.

And China is going hard on Investiture of the Gods adaptions right now.

Does this fit the lore and aesthetic of the Black Myth IP or is it a shameless cash-grab?

In either case @texasgoldrush:, what is your obsession? You seem more concerned with winning an argument no one is having with you than making any sort of constructive point.

Ne Zha is actually in BMW already.

And Wukong did defeat Ne Zha in Journey To The West.
