@challe232 @FreedomPrime Frankly I don't think most of the men / boys in the gaming realm have a clue how many women share their hobby. I suspect its easier and more relaxing for a woman to lay low and be gender neutral, but believe me, there are LOTS of women on this site and other places online. And I don't think any of them are pushing for more My Little Pony games. But they could probably deal with fewer FPS games each year too.

@YukoAsho This pretty much sums up my sentiment. Of course I want the straight white men to keep making their shooters and racing games. But I would love to see what a different make-up could bring to the table as well. Maybe the industry could use more games like Flower and Journey to go along with the CoD and Assassin's Creed.

I don't understand why the mention of more women in the industry is met with protests of "No! Women want babies!"

@bluefox755 Yeah, because these teams of all white males are doing such wonders for the videogame creation process so far. How many Call of Duty games have we had so far...?

@iMpLuX Those women and their damn ovaries. That's the reason that we can't pay them as much either.

Your argument is a chicken-and-egg problem. Maybe if there were more women in the creative process, we'd have more to play than just "games with gratuitous violence and scantly [sic] clad women."

@Eric8315 @theKSMM @zyxe @Screenbrain What does who created anything have to do with it? By that "logic," Tiger Woods shouldn't be playing golf, Eminem shouldn't be rapping, and Margaret Thatcher never should have been Prime Minister.

Game development isn't some treehouse where you want to keep out anybody that doesn't look, think, and act like the originators. Maybe there's a whole new direction this industry could go in if we brought in fresh new ideas rather than carbon copies of existing programmers.

We gamers always complain about sequels and derivative games, but as soon as somebody suggests shaking up the creative talent, there's this inane backlash. I guess we can keep hiring nerdy, straight white guys and seeing how many variations of Call of Duty we can endure.

@ChiefFreeman Even if that were true, he would still be a Hall of Fame Game Designer.

@zyxe @Screenbrain My thoughts exactly. The article starts out by saying that the problem must be understood before it can be worked on. I guess we have a long way to go before we clear the "understood" phase.

Anybody who has been gaming for a while knows that bad things can happen to good gamers. Consoles break down, get damaged or stolen and need to be replaced. And the punishment for that is what -- now I can no longer play my game library when I replace my console? And what about households that have more than one console? I guess finishing that game of Halo in the bedroom is out of the question now.

Interestingly, this would swing the benefit imbalance way in favor of digital downloads (which is exactly what the game industry wants). At least that way, my games are tied to my account, not my console, and can "follow me" to any system I log on to...at least until they decide to make that illegal too. :-/

Up to now I have preferred the XBOX to the PlayStation, but if Microsoft implemented this scheme (and Sony didn't) I would change my allegiance real quick.

@TenraiSenshi And that's not to mention that it's just a really unfriendly way of doing business.
