Hold up everybody. Doesn't anybody remember the thread we had here a couple months ago where we were all bashing Alienware's pricing, and then it turned out that we couldn't beat the price by building a PC newegg with the same specs?
I know that Alienware used to be severely overpriced, but like I said, as recently as a couple of months ago they had a few really good deals. We may still be able to save TC money by having him build it himself, or go Cyberpower, etc.. But Alienware has somehow gotten more price competitive recently.
TC- can you please post the specs of the system you're looking at (CPU, GPU, RAM, Hard drive(s), optical drive(s), sound card, monitor (if any), power supply (if it tells you)? Then we can do an honest price comparison to let you know if you're getting a good deal.

I think there was a sale or something when that thread was posted... The good deal I also saw on Alienware is non-existent now :?
TC, do post the specifications of the computer you're planning to buy. We can possibly save you a good deal of money by looking at other sites for you.
OK. Here's the specs:
RAM: 4GB (6GB if its within budget)
GPU: ATI Radeon 1GB 5870
CPU: Intel i7 930 (willing to go AMD x4 955)
HDD: 1TB Monitor: 24" OS: Windows 64-bit
OD: 16X Dual-Layer Burner (DVD±RW)
KB&Mouse: Whatever, not fussed
If you need more info let me know. My budget is $A2500 ($US2123ish). I'm willing to go higher though if absolutely necessary. Dell's new Studio XPS 7100 is looking pretty good, has AMD instead of Intel, but its power supply is totally bogus.
Thanks for your help so far.
Dude I live in Australia and I can tell you that's way too much, you could have that in a custom system for well under 2k easy. If you spend $2500AU on a custom system you could probably get a 5970 :\
Check out MSY for cheap parts and/or CPL if you live in Vic
