You may want to look at Folklore for the PS3.
It satisfies most of your criteria and is rated quite well by IGN (though the Gamespot score is low)... you may wanna check out a few reviews.

Hi,
I have the option of getting both the 60 gigs and the 80 gigs PS3. Have a couple of questions though:
1. does the 60 gigs play all PS2 discs? I ve read that the 80 gigs is not compatible with all the games and is a software emulator rather than a hardware emulator.
2. How do PS2 games look on the PS3 (I have an LG LCD TV and will be using the HDMI cable for my PS3)
3. How well does Sony support the 60 gigs PS3 now that it has stopped the production of the same?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
The head of Sony's Computer Entertainment division (forgot his name) gave an explanation for this in an EGM issue... according to their survey, most people (70% if I remember correctly - though I'm not sure) do not own an HDTV. So going by that logic they included the AV cable and not HDMI cable.
Of course I am just relaying the view, not neccesarily agreeing with it. I am about to buy a PS3 and not too happy about shelling out extra money for the HDMI cable. But that's life
I'm playing the Egypt levels of Tomb Raider Anniversary these days and I think the game designers got a little carried and started to believe that Lara is actually the Prince of Persia. The timing required in many sequences is precise and Lara seems to be built for bad timing and poor direction sense! It's getting very frustrating!!
Was going through one of the older issues of EGM and the rumour mill there mentioned that Bioshock port to PS3 is a possibility.
Anyone have any more dope on this?
Hi,
I'm planning to buy a PS3 and the current choice is between 40 GB and 80 GB (Since I'm in India the 60 GB is not available here)
I have a few questions about the backward compatibility:
1. What exactly is the software emultion thing thats in the 80 gigs version and would it be compatible with PAL region PS2 discs?
2. Graphics! I plugged in my PS2 to my HDTV and the graphics were horrible (It hurt me to play GOW2 on it!). because of limited resources here, I couldn't find a component cable for the PS2 here, but the component cable for PS3 is available. Would it help when I play my PS2 games on the PS3 with HDTV?
3. Can someone who owns a 80 gigs PS3 tell me if the following games are compatible? GOW 1 and 2, Manhunt, R&C 1, Jak 2, Killzone.
I need to figure out if going for a backward compatible system would actually be of any use to me. Otherwise I would just save the cash and go for a 40 gigs.
Really appreciate the help.
Thanks.
Well rumours (according to EGM) say that God of War 3 might see a 2008 release. So I'm putting my money there :)
One of the threads sparked my interest in this. Just wanted to know the major drivers behind this decision.
So what made you decide upon the console you ended up buying.
My case... I own a PS2 and I bought it because 1. it's cheaper 2. played some games on it at my friend;s place and liked it a lot.
Whoa! It's interesting how everything tends to converge on the 360 vs PS3! :)
Let me come out first by stating that I own a PS2, and will definitely buy a PS3 no matter how bleak the future for it is predicted... and the reason is simple... its exclusives are more to my taste... namely.. R&C, GoW, and MGS. That doesn't go on to say that I feel the 360 is inferior in any way. Its FPS line up is intimidating to say the least, and the established library will blow away what PS3 has. But isn't that kind of obvious? It's been around longer, developers have become comfortable with it over time and everything has its own learning curve.
To pick up an example from the.. uh.. "format wars"... most people don't seem very happy with Blue Ray discs... but honestly... it doesn't even matter. Every technology comes with its own learning curves and I'm quite sure that this would become a non-issue over time. It offers higher storage capacity and that definitely is an advantage. And every technology has its own pros and cons. Who knows if Xbox adopts the blue ray for its next console if it sees the potential in it?
The same goes for game dev... it'll take time to master all the tricks of the process... and once that is done... the focus on content would increase... which would translate into more games falling into the high quality titles.
Look at it this way... the system doesn't even matter... look at the exclusives, look at which controller is more comfortable for u.. look at which system offers a better online support (if it matters to u) and most importantly, all these factors at a given point in time, and that should decide what you buy. Opinions will always be around. I think Halo 3 and Shadow of the Colossus are overrated (I made it a point to pick up exclusives from both sides :) )... but that wouldn't change the opinion of the people who love these games and it sure as hell shouldn't start out a war of mindless me-toos over what consoles someone owns.
I wouldn't claim to have an intimate insight into Sony' business strategy, but they definitely seem to be leaning towards a system for the future. I definitely see brighter games coming up for them. And the same goes for Xbox 360 and its successor. The cycle repeats itself and all that really matters is the damn game you like to play. I'll take God of War 3 over Halo 3, I'll take MGS 4 over Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed is out on both so I don't care :P.Just like me everyone is free to take their preferences irrespective of the console.
That, in my opinion, is all that should matter.
