@dabear: MCC MP was slow to get into matches and hits did not register. It so confusing at the time, like, "...Am I shooting right?" LOL It was hard to believe the hit detection so bad was even possible. Sadly, I gave up and soon stopped playing. Never went back to the MP.
The single playrer modes were great, but my "Truth & Reconciliation" checkpoint vanished twice.
@hardwenzen: Development was a mess. It was a year late (going with the Series S|X release date) and not feature complete. Then there were some ongoing bugs in MP, and they were slow to release content for a "live" free-to-play game.
This would not be surprising at all. 343 squandered the momentum the game had. I doubt they cut this many people just to staff up again. Better to get their bearings, lock down a solid plan, and move forward quietly.
@chuckratm1: That is part of the issue. Microsoft did not retain IP and try to acquire studios that they held close relationships with. Bungie opted to leave. Bioware, Pandemic, Remedy and others were allowed to slip away. Some were acquired by outside entities.
In contrast, Sony keep studios in exclusive publishing deals and acquired then a decade(s) later.
@mwewerka: Gameplay and world building.God Of War wins those categories because of presentation. Sony puts on a show. Sony Pictures, Sony Television, Sony Music. These are videogames. Actual gameplay wins out.
@maralzo: Yes, the reason ABK went for $70 billion is because of King mobile revenue and CoD revenue. To make it the most profitable one wouldn't cut huge segment of the players. Even if the majority switched to Xbox, that would take a considerable amount of time. Microsoft would struggle to manufacture, ship and sell enough consoles to fill the void.
As you said, it is more likely it will go to GamePass. I don't see why MS would need to agree to longer contractual terms than ABK currently does. The UK and EU investigative bodies are either biased in favor of Sony or woefully ignorant of the industry...or both. These are videogames, not utility companies. If Sony could have somehow bought exclusivity for CoD from ABK, nothing would have been made of it.
