If you can actually find 2 copies, I'd highly recommend System Shock 2. It has a coop mode that works really well. I did a complete playthrough in coop mode with a buddy on the west coast (I'm east coast). It's also the type of game where you don't have to have super FPS like reaction skills to get through the game.
There are very few modern games that support a true coop playthrough. System Shock 2 though had an excellent coop mode that lets you playthrough the entire single player game.
I couldn't play Oblivion without using mods. The vanilla game world in Oblivion was horrible. I couldn't stand the fact that at level 1 you could go to the deepest darkest farthest away dungeon and you'd only run into critters the same level as you.
It wasn't until OOO was released that I could actually enjoy Oblivion. After that I'm positive I played Oblivion for 1000+ hours. As for the main quest I usually left it for the very end. I explored the world before advancing the main story. I didn't even save Kvatch until the late stages of the game because I wanted to explore the entire world without those stupid Oblivion gates ruining the landscape.
If you download some of the really well done quest mods and OOO, you can easily have a 250+ hour playthrough.
A new X-Com game!
And Rainbow Six: Raven Shield 2!

Supposedly 2K is now working on a new X-COM game.
Being that it's Bioware they have a track record of doing "new" things. I wouldn't put any hope that it's a KOTOR based MMO. I'd say it's more probable that it's a totally new IP or an IP that nobody has made a game based on.
Anyways I wouldn't expect any details for quite awhile. The next big market push from Bioware will be Dragon Age, after the Mass Effect hype has run a few months.
Dark Star One - you can get it at Target for $10.
It fully supports flightsticks but also works just fine with a mouse only. The game is only about a year old.
My list will be quite different because I've been waiting for xmas to get all the recent new games. For the last few months I've been playing older games that I missed out on.
1.) Darkstar One - really fun space combat game. Really wish I had of purchased this when it first came out because I want to see more games like this. I saw it in Target for 10 bucks and just took a chance on buying it. Wasn't dissappointed at all, in fact I feel like I'm cheatin the devs for only paying 10 bucks for it.
2.) Galactic Civ + Dark Avatar expansion - turn based strategy game. Very deep and allows you to design your own star ships.
3.) Nexus: Jupiter Incident - bought it off of steam for 10 bucks. It's sort of an average game with moments that will frustrate you because you have to have the exact ship loadout that the devs intended for a mission.
4.) Spellforce Universe - had never played any of the spellforce games before. Saw the Universe package at Gamestop for 30 bucks and just picked it up. It contains 2 games and 3 expansions. I'm about 5 missions into the first Spellforce game and it is actually quite a fun game to play. Has a real unique twist of RPG + RTS. Hard to explain it fully, It is quite fun and I'm looking forward to playing through the expansions then getting into the 2nd game which has much better graphics.
If I manage to get through Spellforce Universe before Christmas then I think I might try Divine Divinity. After xmas though I'll be quite busy because the wife is getting me at least 4 games (probably Crysis, Orange Box, COD4, Universe at War)
As others have said. The main problem with Oblivion is that they had to dumb it down enough for the kiddies on the xbox so they could play it with a joystick.
Don't let the nay-sayers though talk you out of an incredible game. I HIGHLY recommend that right from the get go you install the OOO mod. It makes the game a lot more difficult and gives the world a more static feel to it, what I mean is unlike vanilla Oblivion with OOO installed you simply can't go certain places until you earn the levels to do it.
There are many other fantastic mods. Visit the official Obivion forums and go to the mod section. Oblivion with OOO installed is one of the better RPG's out there.
For a great experience install Oblivion, patch it, then install the OOO mod and add a leveling mod such as the AF one. That's pretty much all you need for your first play through.
