Used games give gamers on tighter budgets the ability to own more games than they otherwise would by just buying new. By closing off the used game market, developers are only going to hurt themselves in the long run. Also, one thing I haven't seen mentioned with all of this locking in new copies of games to player accounts: What happens to rentals? How would this affect those who rent games like Gamefly? Would every game be reduced to merely an extended demo, instead of us being able to rent games, play them through (or not, depending on whether we like the game or not), and then return them for another? I think Sony and Microsoft need to rethink their position.
