Robin is in? Oh boy! I hope this means plenty of homoerotic tension.

It was from the early '00s. You played as a penguin, I think you had a gun. The title screen for the game was very red. The game was a side-scrolling game with cutscenes, and I think there was some blood.

I remember it being a lot of fun so I'm trying to find it again.

How often do you play RPGs? Persona 4, FF10, Valkyrie Profile, Disgaea, Dragon Quest VIII, Shadow Hearts? Just wondering, because it sounds like you delve into a wide variety of games, just not RPGs (JRPGs, more specifically).Greyfeld

I have a love/hate relationship with RPGs. I love the emphasis on story and character development, but they are (as you probably guessed) way too long and repetitive for my tastes. I've played FFVII, part of FFX, a small part of DQVIII, a bit of Earthbound, most of FFVI.

Over the past year or so, I've played Metroid Prime, Chrono Trigger, Oblivion, Half Life 2, Half Life, Psychonauts, Twilight Princess, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto IV...that's all I can think of for now.

Psychonauts and Metal Gear Solid 4 were a blast from start to finish. Twilight Princess came very close despite being a relatively long game. Chrono Trigger was great for the majority of the game, but the last few hours were grating. The other games became tedious around the halfway mark or earlier. Again, this is not because I have a short attention span. Because I look at games as an art form, I like to observe all the details. So maybe I should just change my style of playing games?

I see that most people are making the usual "I want my money's worth" argument. Let's say games were in the $25 range, would you still want the game to last 20+ hours?

And to the person who suggested that I have a low attention span, I think my problem is the opposite. I like to take my time when playing games, so that I can take in the details, such as the art design. As a result, it takes me a while to get through games. Maybe that's why I feel games are too long. I can see why people would want more time out of their games as a time-waster, but as an artform long play times don't do games any good.

By the way, here is an article that reflects my argument nicely:

http://www.jaxobserver.com/2009/07/13/why-most-video-games-are-boring-after-the-first-hour/

To me, a game stops feeling special after the first few hours. It stops being an experience and it starts being something you just do to pass the time. I never feel this way when watching (or rewatching) movies or listening (or relistening) to music albums. A movie has as much substance in 2.5 hours as a video game has in 10. That's the truth.

Or am I the only one who feels that games feel like a chore past the 10 hour mark, or, dare I say it, even earlier than that? Most games rely on a set of game mechanics, which are repeated over and over again. What adds variety to a game are new environments, new enemies, etc. However at a certain point, even that is not enough to keep a game feeling fresh.

This is sure to be a controversial opinion, but think about the benefits of shorter video games. Less repitition, less tedium, less time wasted. Possibly even lower prices. And if you want more playtime out of the game you can just replay it, the same way you would rewatch a movie or relisten to an album.

If I had to choose one, I would choose Metallica. Their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th albums were ridiculously heavy while being aggressive and thrashy at the same time. The songwriting on those albums is some of the best metal has to offer. Elitists will scoff, but it's true. Few other bands can meld multiple riffs and time signatures in a way that sounds cohesive and not disjointed. There is just a very iconic and near flawless sound that Metallica had during those albums. It was like they could do no wrong.

That being said, Megadeth is my 2nd favorite thrash band (Slayer being third). Peace Sells is a quintessential thrash metal album, and quite possible my favorite album of all time. The album has a very jazz fusion feel to it, partly because of Chris Poland's amazing leads. That guy is so underrated it's sad. And of course, Rust in Peace is a fantastic speed metal album, even if it lost some of the evilness and darkness of Peace Sells. It makes up for it with great melodies and Marty Friedman's awesome leads.

What, 4ch--ACK! *is swiftly decapitated*

But, seriously, what is MTV's audience these days? Ever since the advent of Web 2.0, it seems most teens don't pay attention to MTV. Or at least the reasonably smart teens. So I guess that leaves tweens?

In any case, so much for Kanye West changing his ways as he claimed after the infamous South Park episode aired. You're still a gay fish, Kanye.

Sorry if this is way old news, but numerous people on the Internet have had a problem with WiiConnect24 overheating the GPU and causing graphical glitches. It just happened to me. It stinks.

TheColbert

Did it kill your Wii? Are you having to have it fixed? My Wii has died 2 or 3 times(I think it is a Xbox 360 in disguise) but I forget what it was for.

No, luckily it's only minor artifacting right now, as I managed to catch it at an early stage. For now I have my Wii unplugged, and I will wait a day before attempting to play again. I'm hoping no permanent damage has occurred, or at the least that no more damage will occur if I keep WiiConnect24 off. Here are few videos from people who have been having the same problem.

No, it's not a huge deal, but it is pretty annoying, and apparently it can get progressively worse. Never thought I would have this kind of problem with a Nintendo console. Their systems are usually pretty robust.
