The coolest thing about this game is the procedure-generated base 64 system they used to create it. I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi space sims myself, but I could see some serious potential if Hello Games licensed the source code.
I'd personally love it if they licensed it to Bethesda so they could do a Daggerfall remake in the same spirit by which the original Daggerfall was created. The original Daggerfall had an in-game size of Great Britain, so a remake with this engine could boost it to the size Asia.
Nintendo, Pokemon Co., Tecmo, Square Enix, etc. All of these companies have every right to guard their IPs through the DCMA. But I will point out that American, and European developers are far more gracious to the fans than their Japanese counterparts when it comes to expressing creative tributes. Modding is a way that western developers have allowed fans to use their technical skills to enhance a game, or make a standalone game entirely. The closest any Japanese company has come to this was Nintendo's sole title "Mario Maker", at a price of $60.
Imagine how much fun Pokemon Sun/Moon would be if they launched with a modding kit? Or Final Fantasy XV? Zelda? Instead all we read about are dedicated fans putting years of work into masterful creations only to have the IP owners unceremoniously issue cease and desist letters.
I would like to see several new/borrowed features in ES6:
*Native VR support (pretty sure it's a done deal since we're getting it in Fallout 4) *Melee weapons with different attack types, and optimized for different attack types like Morrowind (slash/chop/thrust) *Weapon mods like Fallout 4 *Much more specialized skill trees and abilities so that different character archetypes have a unique feel and play style *Faction system like we saw in New Vegas *Settlement crafting enhancements like Fallout 4 *Limited fast-travel like Witcher 3 (not quite as limited as Morrowind, but ES games are partly about exploration) *Crafting schematics like Witcher 3 *Throwing weapons like Far Cry games
A few others come to mind, but those are my big improvement wishes.
I really wish Hello Games would license this engine to Bethesda so they could do a Daggerfall remake. A sci-fi game is cool and all, but a base 64 procedure generated Daggerfall would be utterly massive and awesome.
The more launch titles the better - it's the only aspect of the system that will appeal to core gamers. But if Nintendo wants to target the casual user/non-gamer market segment as they did with the Wii, then NX needs to have inherent SMS/MMS, and telephony built in to the device. I think the NX needs to have full blown smartphone functionality to appeal to the masses. It doesn't need every app available in Google Play/ iTunes, just the basics like Facebook, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, YouTube, etc. While that would cast the marketing net as wide as possible, I personally don't believe the NX will be a Nintenphone.
It may be more likely they'll attempt to compete with actual tablets: iPads, Surface, and Androids. While the NX would mop the floor with these in terms of gaming capability, the problem with this approach is that people tend to only carry one smart device at a time, hence the rising popularity of phablets.
@Xristophoros: I think the delay to March 2017 was largely due to the production of NVidia's Tegra X2 chip, assuming the rumors of it being powered by the X2 are true. NVidia will reveal the chip and it's capabilities on August 22nd, which means it's likely just now starting to be mass produced. Nintendo would need that extra time between now an March for the NX manufacturing assembly and distribution.
@nando69: I think each product caters to a different crowd. The X1 S will continue to be a decent option for people with a standard 1080p HDTV. Scorpio looks to be more geared towards people who have a 4K TV, or those who own an Oculus Rift. Also, Scorpio will likely retail for several hundred dollars more if it's as powerful as they say. And I would expect a full $100 price drop for the X1 S when it gets released. My Prediction when Scorpio rolls out will be:
X1 S (500GB): $199 X1 S (1TB): $249 X1 S (2TB): $299 X1 Scorpio: $599/$499 (with trade-in)
