Nintendo executive: What!!!??? We release a game on the most popular handheld devices on the planet and our share value goes up? Inconceivable!
Nintendo executive: (pausing to think of the impossible) Wait a minute... If we actually released full Nintendo games on popular platforms, would our share value go up even more?
I'm betting it'll retail for $399 when it hits the shelves, or $449 tops. Six teraflops sounds like a lot on paper, but it's really nothing more than an overclocked RX 480. The new 8 core CPU will likely keep the same original Jaguar SoC architecture, just at a higher clock speed due to the 14mm FinFET manufacturing process. The cost of materials for this new system isn't going to be high, so there's no reason to expect PS3 launch MSRP. And I think MS will try to make it easier to swallow by throwing in $100 off on a trade in.
@RaveNRolla: I think anyone with a 4k TV might be interested in shelling out a little more money for a Scorpio or Neo, but that's still a relatively small market segment. Another selling feature might have to do with VR. Even though the older consoles will support PSVR, and Rift, they'll really only be playable with the new consoles at the resolution and frame rates that can rival PCs. For example, I think Bethesda's announcement of their upcoming VR feature in Fallout 4 will be a fully immersive mode of gameplay on Neo and Scorpio, but will likely be dumbed-down to the theatrical presentation mode for the current X1 and PS4.
Seems like a reasonable cost/performance ratio, and a real threat to the RX 480. But Nvidia needs to do a better job keeping up with the demand. They totally botched the launch of the 1070 and 1080, and they're squandering valuable first-mover advantage time in the market place as AMD's Vega GPU launch date comes closer and closer. Hopefully they'll do a better job with the GTX 1060
@heqteur: Well, let me try to phrase this as simply as possible so you can understand. The 3DS has no real competition since Sony abandoned the Vita, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that it's selling relatively well in market it effectively has a monopoly on. Also, the NX is not the 3DS. It might have a mobile component similar to the 3DS, but it's going to be a home console system (think Wii U, X1, and PS4 if you're struggling to imagine what that looks like).
@heqteur: I already stated these elements were new to a Zelda game - I said that in my first sentence. And just so you know, this game will be measured against modern open world action/adventure franchises when the review takes place. You can call comparing game mechanics to other modern games irrelevant if you want, but you're just deluding yourself.
This might all be new to a Zelda game, but there's nothing in here that hasn't been pioneered by other great game franchises like Far Cry, Witcher, GTA, Uncharted and so on. I don't doubt it will be a great game (it better be for how long they've taken to develop it), but it certainly doesn't look revolutionary.
@atomolog: Exactly. I don't mind using cheats on single player campaigns, or single player only games, but it completely defeats the purpose of online multiplayer
