If manufactures are selling crap like this, then they really need to make a Raspberry Pi Steam Machine model. Crazy thing is it could actually work since Steam OS is a Debian-based distro

$300 would be money better spent on another GTX970

Well even mid-tier graphics cards are sporting a minimum of 2GB of memory with 256-bit interfaces, so these specs aren't too demanding on the PC side. I just feel terrible for anyone buying this for XBone or PS4. Sure the consoles can probably eek out enough video memory to play it on a medium-high setting PC equivalent at 900p, but I worry about the frame rates they'll produce with the recommended processors listed in the article. The Jaguar APUs aren't quite on par with a i5-2500k. All the more reason why I'm anticipating new consoles from Sony and Microsoft by 2017 or 2018.

@timmerous: I'd agree that a 2 year refresh cycle is too frequent, but I wouldn't put it past Microsoft to release a new iteration of Xbox by holiday season 2017 or 2018. Primary reasons being that Nintendo will release NX in holiday season 2016, and perhaps more importantly is the recent proliferation of VR investment. MS said that the Xbox will support Oculus, but it lacks the hardware power to deliver a suitable VR experience with its current hardware. AMD also made an announcement a few days back that they're demonstrating new chips with 5 times the performance of the current consoles for a 2018 release schedule:

@Sohereiam: Apparently you don't understand what DRM is. It's what Microsoft intended for Xbox One prior to it's release - requiring an always-on internet connection for software validity and account access. While it's very easy to copy a non-DRM digital game and play it locally (like Skyrim, or Witcher 3), it's utterly useless to attempt to play a game with active DRM. You would have to jailbreak the console, rendering it useless for any form of online use (patches, multiplayer, etc.)

In the case of the Nintendo NX, they could very easily opt for a DRM solution for their new console since 90% of games made for Nintendo hardware are 1st party. To top it off, DRM could be used as an enforcement measure for in-game Amiibo abilities.

It's called DRM, Nintendo. If you're really that concerned about your software, then turn eShop into your exclusive platform for game distribution. You'll save millions in distribution and publication costs, and will never need to worry about out-of-control pirated physical media. But since you're incapable of producing a decent online experience (account management, voice chat, PvP, etc.), I suggest you contract out to Valve, Microsoft, or Sony if you'd like to join the 21st century.

I enjoyed this line: "Nintendo didn't discuss the performance of its hardware..."

@kjouda: You poor destitute gamer. I feel nothing but pity for those who delude themselves that a gamepad and subpar graphics are the best way to experience a game. I'll pray for your corrupt console-stained soul. HA HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Well you always get what you pay for. People really shouldn't be surprised to only get 25-30 frames per second with hardware platforms like PS4 and Xbone. If you have a problem with it, cough up the extra green and join the PC Master Race. A Skylake i7 6700k, 16GB of DDR4, a 500GB SSD, and a couple GTX 970s in SLI with a triple monitor surround configuration will let you play Fallout 4 like it's meant to be played.

Consoles are for clowns, and Nintendo fanboys...
