If Nintendo bundled these shovelware titles like Mario Tennis, Captain Toad, and Kirby Rainbow Road together, and then sold it as a standalone game for $50, it might not be too bad of a deal.
@SteedLaw: Lol. Please know what you're talking about before posting a comment. Microsoft purchased Minecraft in November 2014. It was released on every other console prior to that (PS4, PS Vita, PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbone One). Sorry dude, but this had everything to do with Nintendo not coughing up enough cash to purchase a non-exclusive lease for the software IP. Seriously, people can be really stupid sometimes.
@wgerardi: Agreed. Sony execs are kidding themselves if they believe this crap is going to sell a $350+ VR headset to the masses. To be fair, PS VR seems like a great platform for indie developers to experiment with, but that's all it is - demos. The PS4 doesn't have anywhere near the CPU/GPU horsepower required to deliver a sufficient AAA title VR experience. I can only assume PS VR is also designed to be compatible with the PS5, otherwise Sony is wasting its money.
If it came out as a launch title the Wii U would probably have sold 5 million more units by now. Please Nintendo, learn from your mistakes and make the NX awesome.
The only thing that could make the Witcher 3 better is a dedicated construction set module like the Elder Scrolls games. Give modders more liberty with the environment and sales will go up significantly. Geralt with his steel and silver swords is a lot of fun, but Geralt with two lightsabers would be awesome...
@RobDev: Sorry to offend your sensibilities - I forgot how cash constrained console gamers are. I guess the moral of the story is if you want decent performance and short load times, get a job and buy a performance PC
@davillain-: I think another big limitation right now is the technology used for the HMDs. LCD displays might be nice from a manufacturing perspective because of how inexpensive they've become from mobile devices, but they're still heavy and uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time. And as you say, the hardware horsepower required for current HMDs will be too much for even top-end GPUs to produce steady and high-quality frame rates for AAA titles.
I think the answer is Virtual Retinal Display. VRD systems are much smaller and lighter than current LCD HMDs like Vive and Rift. And instead of using the GPU to power two independent screens at high resolutions, and frame rates, VRD only requires the GPU to power one video processor that projects the image onto the users eyes. VRD is also superior because depth modulation is an inherent feature of the technology, and it also automatically focuses to adjust to the users eyesight - so no need to wear glasses under your HMD if you're near-sighted or far-sighted.
The best way to improve XBONE performance from a hardware perspective is to standardize SSDs with every model they sell. An XBONE bundle with a Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD equipped would outperform the PS4 on load times.
