It was pretty obvious from the leaks early on that Nintendo Switch wasn't going to compete in terms of graphical horsepower with X1 or PS4. But I find it surprising that they went with Maxwell over Pascal. 20mm to 16mm may not sound like a huge difference, but it will have a noticeable impact on battery life. Pascal is far more optimized for power efficiency than Maxwell.
@sodapoppimpski: Kind of funny how you're so doubtful. 4K HDTV content started going mainstream in 2013, and the subsequent price drop in 4K TV hardware amounted to 85% over a three year period - to the present availability of sub-$1,000 4K sets at 65 inch sizes. It will happen faster for 8K TVs because the UHD compression technology is already available. And the newest iteration of DisplayPort 1.4 already supports 8K resolution. It's almost certain that 8K TVs will have a 2-3% market share in North America by holiday 2018.
