Spot-on as usual, Danny, but I don't think people dislike all short games. Many short-yet-replayable games are met with much praise - Rogue Legacy, for example is one standout that initially seems shallow, yet offers hours of replayability.
A lot of people - myself included - are discouraged from buying Ground Zeroes specifically because of its lack of story. In another game - say, Rogue Legacy - this would be completely OK; however, the MGS name has become synonymous with long stories. The fact that I have seen the ENTIRE plot of Ground Zeroes in a trailer months ago destroys most of the excitement I have for it.
I am not saying that GZ is a bad product; it's merely a product that fails to appeal to its core audience. The gameplay might be great, but paying $30 for a single level just doesn't seem worth it when there's nothing else to back it up. I'm sure I'll buy and play GZ before digging into MGS5 proper, but that will only happen once I'm done with everything else in my backlog.
