I bought Journey over Christmas in the sales, after all the hype and nominations it had for various awards I thought i'd actually give it a go.
I played it on max-output on my TV (game runs in 720p only) and had my surround sound headphones on and can only say it's a beautiful experience. Don't go playing the thing if explosions and killing people is your scene, its more an interactive piece of art/platformer hybrid.
In some ways I think the games success hasn't done it any justice to new players. Although I thoroughly enjoyed it I couldn't help but feel that the whole 'emotional twist' so often stated has been vastly exaggerated. There's a story to it yes, but it's much more about the art style and music, not the script.
Definitely deserves recognition and awards, but certainly not GOTY.
@buccomatic You shouldn't need to own a gun to feel a sense of freedom, that's just a bit odd all round really.
Independence yeah, 'American Dream' yeah, but everyone owning a gun because they should be 'entitled' to own one.. it's almost immaturity. The weapons aren't needed any more in the public society, many countries out there in the world get by just fine without citizens having the right to bear arms.
Good concept but it'd no doubt blag your head when you actually play something fast paced.
Also I'm guessing you'd need a 360degree projector which wouldn't be cheap? Not to mention the fact any mirrors in the room or reflective surfaces would balls things up from the off.
I'm all for innovation, and I love the idea, but i'm dubious as to how it would actually work. Project Natal disappointed me massively this generation after the concept idea Microsoft threw at us.. I'll generally take things with a pinch of salt from now on.
You can, but nobody really does it? PC gaming as a whole is generally seen as sitting in a room on your own (except to PC gamers). I'm just stating the public perception, telling it how it is.
As much as I enjoy preaching the COD hate on here to be fair to Activision at least this expansion pack actually offers some innovation! Never thought I'd be saying that :/
I don't own BLOPS2, but watching this video actually made me want to buy it. Hydro looks pretty sweet and the sand dune level looks alright too (if somewhat stealing Spec Ops: The Line's initiative!). Getting killed by a cable-car travelling at 2mph is pretty hilarious though :P
Looks good! Although likely not enough to warrant spending £15. That's outrageous.
Watching this kind of made me realise that this year hasn't really been all that amazing for special games.. there were only a few in there that I generally loved. Most were just mediocre.
Nice long clip of journey though, I only bought that for myself over Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed every second. It's artistic bliss, definitely understand why it's had such rave reviews. The fact That Game Company is now free to go multi-plat can only be a good thing for us gamers, god knows what they'll achieve with the increase in resources :)
