I have read about half the posts in this thread, my opinion on this guy who spent that kind of money on a cartridge is this, who cares how he spent his money? Unless spending those money put this guy in some kind of financial trouble, then I can see the point of people bashing him, otherwise what's the big deal?

I am pretty sure every one of us spent money on things/activities that can be called useless or big waste of money by some people out there. If the guy can easily afford paying that kind of money for something he feels like to purchase, power to him, he sharedhis wealth with the person who sold it, good for both of them.

If spending money to collect something is meaningless or stupid, you can also make a case saying that activities such as playing video games or going to movie theatre is pointless because some wise guy out there can probably tell you hundreds of things that cost less, and they are scientifically proven to be more beneficial to your mind and body. But who cares, whatever we really want to do is more important, no?

For people criticizing this guy, do you all spend your money the best way possble agreed by others?

According to EA's quarterly report, EA had a record-breaking revenue during the quarter, the key word here is REVENUE. How much profit they made? Interestingly enough, EA had an operating loss, means, they lost money, no profit.

We all know rising developement cost on games and costly advertisements have forced many developers into difficult situation, looks like EA is the latest victim. So the question should be, where and how EA lost their money?

Keep in mind, Wii games are cheaper than the usual $60 price tag, DS game is usually about $5 to $10 cheaper than a PSP game. Revenue is about adding everything up, it doesn't really tell you anything useful beyond that, especially when no profit was made.

SMG is "only" at 4.5 million. As popular as GH3 is, when you add up all versions from XBox 360, Wii, PS2 and PS3, sales are "only" around 5 to 6 million.

Why SMG is only at 4.5 million?

Next month you can ask why SMG is only at 5.5 million, and by the end of 2008 you will be asking why SMG is only at 10 million.

The game came out like what, only 2 months ago? Halo 3 came out almost 4 months ago, "only" at 6.5 million, assuming you are using vgchartz.

SMG, a little over 2 months sold 4.5 million, Halo 3 came out almost 4 months now, sold 6.5 million. The way they are selling don't look so different to me.

It seems History does repeat.

In a news article by eFluxMedia - they have stated that PS3 sales have increased amazingly. So much in fact that the world sales will increase to over 11 million by the end of the year. And what do Sony owe all this to? History.

lord_aquinas

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Sony say "fiscal year end"? Which means Sony planned to sell 11 million by March 2008 and for all we know, it's probably a projected shipped number.

One thing the Wii truly cannot be compared to the 360 is failure rate, the infamous RROD.

Wow only 20,000 was added to the Wii numbers? seriously? I thought Wii fit is gonna be big sheep? Wtf... So whats next? or maybe Japan doesnt want the Wii.

Wii fit sold out mah ass.

PS3 had nothing this week and it still sold 40,000 units. Cant wait for a demo to trample the SMG and Wii fit numbers!(hint:gt5p)

Tamarind_Face

Wii went up and PS3 went down, that means Japan doesn't want the Wii? Do I even have to mention price cuts, new SKU and bundle from a few weeks ago still can't save the PS3 against the Wii?

Wii Fit sold out in most store last time I heard, how can it not be selling out at most places when the report was saying that retailers preorderedno more than 300,000 WiiFit (possibly less)?

Good luck with the demo, I hope it will save the PS3 and sell millions.......... /sarcasm

Heres my point... Every freaking Nintendo Fanboy and Wiitard was predicting Wii fit is gonna be really huge in Japan. These delusional fanbots were saying Wii is gonna reach DS numbers(aka 100,000 Wii's sold).

Every?

Yes, WiiFit is huge in Japan, unless sales plummet after first week. Was Wii Sports not huge in Japan? that game's first week sales didn't blow people away either, its the power to hang on the charts for months and whole year.

Do you know what "huge in Japan" means?

Didnt Wii sports sell 1 to 2 million copies on launch in japan? I seriously doubt Wii fit will stay on the weekly chart when its not a party game like Wii sports or Wii play. And Wii fit is more expensive.

It depends on what kind of "huge in Japan" you are talking about. Huge in terms of launch sales or huge in total sales? For example, Monster Hunter 2 for PSP was absolutely huge during first week in Japan, but that's about it. Wii Sports was not huge during first week, but in terms of total sales, also when you consider its news coverage, what the game means to the system and how it attracted new people to gaming, is HUGE.

Like I said, WiiFit is huge, it was sold out in most stores, it was all over the news, it attracted some people to buy the Wii who otherwise wouldn't have bought it. I think Wii Fit will easily sell over million in Japan, with a realistic chance of reaching 2 million. All in all, I think WiiFit is huge in Japan, in many ways, it's more significant than any game that has been released on the PS3 so far.

EDIT: to answer the question, I think it took well over a month for Wii Sports to reach one million in Japan. The game is almost always in the top 15 week after week, so now it's over 2 million in Japan.

[QUOTE="wiialltheway"][QUOTE="krp008"]

[QUOTE="soccer_forever"]500 000 000 units sold worldwide in a week says hikrp008

500,000 you mean. And thats not a lot worldwide... Halo 3 sold what? 3 or so million copies in its first day.

500k was first week in the US, Nintendo claimed it's the fastest selling Mario title ever.

Halo 3 sold around 3 million first day worldwide, which is true, but that only means sales dropped by a lot after 1st day.In comparison, although SMG sold a lot less onfirst day, sales didn't take a dive after the 1st day like Halo 3 did. I will go as far as to say SMG's 2nd month will outperform Halo 3's 2nd month by quitea bit.

The fact that this analyst put so much emphasis on first week sales makes him sound a little misinformed. Looking at any Mario game, it always took some time for any Mario game to sell millions, why suddenly expecting SMG to sell millionsduring first week like Halo?

It doesnt matter WHEN you sell a number of products, As long as its SOLD... And showing the world that you've made the most popular game in history is a lot better than a selling a few hundred thousand games a month

If what you say is true, that people will continue to buy SMG for "years", why didnt they buy it sooner?

Yes, apparently, Halo 3 sold millions in first day, but sales drastically went down after that, that's the point I was making. Halo sold great, ESPECIALLY during the first day, I was trying to point out that SMG had and will have a different sales pattern, not saying which is better, because end result counts the most.

The reason why SMG is different from Halo 3 is because they have different audience and different groups of follower. Halo 3 has a big group of followers that will go wait in line to get this game on fist day, Mario games never had that, is it SMG or anybody's fault that it didn't sell millions first day when it reallywasn't meant to be or never known for that?

Realistically, we will be looking at close to 4 million SMG sold by the end of the year, it won't even be 2 months by then. Right now, after about 2 months and a week or so, Halo 3 have sold more or less, around 6 million (?). When you look past the first day or first week, I don't think their difference is that big, whether SMG will catch up to Halo 3's lifetime sales and possibly surpass it will depend on how they conintue to sell next year.
