Well, I thought the purpose of gun control was to minimize crime. (criminals prefer handguns) But youd rather not damage a house. It all makes sense now.
curono
You can control guns, minimize the gun pool, still defend yourself with small guns and avoid large ones:
1. If you produce less weapons and restrict them, you have less guns to take care of, therefore focus your effort on illegal guns is easier.
2. Saying that you can have any gun for self defense and defend your house and friends is dumb. If you want to defend your things and friends you dont shoot a spread shot when indors, destroying things you own. You want things you can control as much as possible. Also bullets from shotguns in interiors are dangerous because you could hurt people you love either across a thin wall, from a recoil of the blast or just because the spread was larger than expected.
3. Having big guns, like semiautomatic rifles, pump guns and other "assault" weapons" rather than small guns (glock, revolver) are bad for households because of two reasons. Takes too much space to store safely ( a locker is the minimum), which goes with children grabbing thins not supposed to. If the gun is dissasembled and you need to rearm it, which is not practical for quick situations.
4.GET THIS STRAIGHT. EVERY GUN USED BY CRIMINALS AT SOME POINT WAS LEGAL. UNLIKE DRUGS THERE ARE NO HIDDEN FACTORIES CREATING THEM. Problem is tracking that amount of guns is extremely hard. You need either to minimize them and make a number which is easier to handle or dedicate MORE RESOURCES. Dedicating more resources goes to escalating. That doesnt work, since the feed of guns (creating them) is continuous and huge. There are more guns than people, it has been said, and not by me.
So, if you start destroying or melting guns, you still get new feeds of guns. Solution, start taking away illegal guns from the street, and stop the HUGE production of guns which encourage the problem in the first place.
1. Cool, that's a good idea as long as there's enough for everybody to have adequate defence if they want or need it.
2. How bout save the big guns for hunting or when the government becomes tyrannical or falls apart as it one day will, (hopefully not soon but one day it WILL happen.) and save the smaller guns for quick situations?
3. Read number 2 again. Plus, like I said, teaching your kids (at a young age) to use guns will cure their curiosity and prevent accidents. About the space, it should be up to the individual to devise adequate storage away from theft etc.
4 I'd just have to repeat number 1.
By the way, if you're trying to suggest gun registration, I'd like to read a quote from Hitler "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future." Thanks for the warning Adolph.
Now, gun registration does not necessarily constitute a government takeover, but it's the first step. You might say "well, they have technology that would make it impossible for us to resist". This may be true, but what if it's not? If they wanted someone dead, they'd simply have bombed their house etc.
