Wouldn't really call it hacked but pretty inevitable. MS say they're not happy but I imagine there is going to be alot of copycat devices made in the coming years for the PC so surely opening up to the PC market isn't a bad thing? Hopefully some devcies will be better than the Kinect as MS allegedly used cheaper components to keep costs down.

Another note is the obvious success of racket, fitness and dancing games for kinect which my family will love once the rental people send them out to me. But I just saw a review on the figthers uncaged and they say it's absolutely awful. This is really disappointing as I had great hopes that the kinect would bring a whole new level to physical games like tekken, fight night etc. Let's hope it was just because it's a poor game in genral and not any fault of kinect.

Zone Alarm Freem Avast Free, Spybot and Malware Bytes are the best combination you can have. They're all free and don't conflict with each other. I'm not sure about MSE as they're not a dedicated AV company. Yes they may have made a good start with detection rates etc but will they keep it up. We all know how poor win defender and win firewall are.

he's done a memtest and was fine alhough that doesn't mean the RAM isn't faulty. PSU can do that if voltage drops briefly, the PC will reboot. I know by experience you can never write off what hardware is causing the problem.

have you tried running just the 1gb ram on its own? If that doesn't work replace the PSU. If it still does it then your mobo is screwed.

Win XP all the way, Linux Ubuntu is good but not an all-round package. Surprised nobody has mentioned Google Chrome OS. Linux is going to change alot once developers get their mits around this OS. It's designed for simple cloud computing but the open-source aspect means developers will be able to add their applications and improvements. I predict it will take over No1 spot in 10 years time.

EU law states you can send any product bought online back within 7 days if you decide you don't want it. You have to pay for postage but they can't charge you any admin fees etc. I think the law applies in US as well but check out your distance selling regulations for your country.

Mixing RAM makes and types is not recommended but if your PC was performing well before then try it. Give your 2GB a good run for a couple of weeks though so you know the PC is running smoothly then introduce the 1GB.

40 sec boot up is pretty fast.. you were expecting quicker? More powerful gfx cards take longer to boot than standard ones as they need to warm up first. My 5770 takes 10secs before bios fires up. Most Windows boot up around the 1min mark. 5GB of data will easily take 12 minutes or more. It all depends on how many files are in that 5GB, the more files the more indexes it needs to create.

My mainboard failed on my laptop so had to replace it but with a compatible one without the seperate gfx card. It works ok but only after switching itself off 5 times from start. You press on and it will light up, turn off 1 sec later and turn back on. It will do this 5 times before finally booting from the HDD. It does this without a drive in there so it's not a Windows problem. Could the mainboard be having problems configuring the processor and have to reboot each time?
