You can't really cheap out on the power supply. Be careful in choosing one, depending on what graphics card you are thinking of geting. For instance, a 9800GX2 would require at the bare minimum 700W power supply, and a 8600GT OC would only need 450W.

And yes, power supplies are expensive becuase they are important.

For your heat sink/fan issue, it would be nice to know what kind of gamer you are and where you use your computer (personally, I have a poor heatsink, and I require two external fans to keep the room cool).
