I think the title of this threat would be more aptly named as "The gaming industry and it's supporters not really happy with Nintendo right now".

It provides the best graphical output. That's different than it being the best.
Let me ask you...can PC's provide great gaming, a 10ft interface, blu ray playback, video/tv streaming, all controllable with a gamepad?
The answer to that question is no. Not without serious amount of work and hacks, and even then it doesn't work as smoothly as a console.
Thus, PC's are NOT the best solution for the living room. At best PC's are an alternative for gaming in the living room. At best.

why are you controlling streaming and playback with a gamepad? just use a remote
Because consoles are able to do ALL that with a controller...why can't the superior PC do the same?
Why isn't Metro navigable with a controller? Why isn't their native Netflix or Hulu apps? And guess what, you cant navigate them with a remote control either.
Yeah, that's just what I want to do when I'm done playing a game, and watch Netflix...wrestle around a keyboard and mouse.
PC's are inferior in the living room. Plain and simple.

That's what's known as a false equivalency.
SuperFlakeman
It's based on a subjective perspective.
The fact that a game is a 'Mario' game is completely irrelevant, in the same sense Kirby's Epic Yarn is a new IP that got the Kirby universe slapped onto it.
Meanwhile, all the Killzone games play out exactly the same.
Obviously, if you disagree with these two statements, you'll perceive the equivalency as false. For me, it's true.
They're all examples of the Mario franchise being milked...to death. Nothing more.
At least the Killzone games are pushing the limits graphically, and are still fun to play. What limits are the Mario games pushing? How many gold coins can be collected?
Mario games are fine...but Jesus Christ, the franchise could use a break.

More evidence that Nintendo games are being held back by...Nintendo.
Please die as a console platform Nintendo...PLEASE! Your games and fans will greatly benefit as a result.

lol
I know this is a shit attempt but I can't help but laugh.
Tell me ONE advantage gamers and Nintendo franchises receive by Nintendo remaining a console platform? Woud it not benefit all gamers and the games by them being on the more powerful consoles, with a larger install base?
Nintendo hold's their IP's hostage within a crappy console. It's not fair to you, me, or the games.
> gives nintendo shit for rehashing Mario[QUOTE="xxxLUGZxxx"]
How many Mario games have they vomited out in the past year or two? Nintendo is a joke, plain and simple.
Here we are on the verge of a new gen, with games like Titanfall, Killzone, The District, and all the new sports games about to go live...and what does Nintendo have to offer? Pikmin 3? Another Rayman game? Seriously?
We're about a year into the life of the Wii U? Where is the awesome 1080p Zelda game that could actually challenge what the PS4/X1 has to offer? Or an amazing new Metroid game with slick graphics and awesome multiplayer? What about a good Starfox game? Or maybe even a "grown up" Mega-Man game, with 3rd person perspective and awesome combat?
But no...none of those have even been announced, or have any evidence that they're "on the way". Instead we have Paper Mario Pizza World and Lugi Condo 3.
Nintendo is completely irrelevant. They've reduced themselves to mobile gaming level. Hell maybe even Leapster/Leap Frog level.
Nintendo as a console needs to die. Plain and simple.
Shinobishyguy
> cites yet another Killzone game
At this point I'm not even surprised
That's what's known as a false equivalency.
Number of Killzone games since it's inception in 2004: 6 or 1 game every 1 1/2 years.
Number of Mario franchise games since 2004: I stopped counting at close to 50*, or over 5 games per year.
Yes, that's totally equal. Don't think anyone has ever criticized Nintendo just because they've made multiple Mario franchise games. But the extent to which they've whore'd tha franchise is just legendary.
So making the comparison to Killzone is silly at best, asinine at worst.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"] So much wrong with this post: First off, of course, is the problem with reducing Nintendo's console output this year to Pikmin 3. Secondly, lol at Rayman being a Nintendo title. Thirdly, lol at thinking Zelda or Metroid could possibly be developed that fast. Fourthly, lol at Mega Man being a Nintendo franchise. Fifthly, lol at the sheer amount of butthurt in this post. It's insane.conkertheking1
What am I butthurt about? There are some Nintendo games I want to play. But I'm not willing to invest in a console to play maybe 3 or 4 games.
I never said that Mega-Man was a Nintendo IP. Is there something stopping them from making a Mega-Man game? A good one?
And why hasn't Zelda or Metroid been in development all this time?
The point is that Nintendo simply does not have ANYTHING to compete with the new consoles. Nothing. Save for 3 or 4 more Mario titles.
The Wii U is a toy, nothing more. And that's not because of hardware or anything like that. Nintendo themselves did it, by producing nothing to make it a serious console contender.
If this holiday season there was a new Zelda/Metroid game coming out, then maybe. But there's not. Who knows when they'll release. Maybe 2014? 15? Will the Wii U even be alive by then?
Who in there right mind will be buying a $300 Wii U this holiday season, over a $400 PS4? Or even a $500 X1? They're both superior hardware wise, offer many mor entertainment options...AND they have more and better games.
If Nintendo AT LEAST had the games angle down, then I could see someone buying the system. But they don't. They have Mario, Pikimin 3....and what? I'll admit that X looks awesome. But if I were to buy a Wii U...it would be for that game...and that's it. Then it would collect dust until Nintendo eventually decides to maybe release a new Zelda or Metroid game.
To me, there's no comparison. There are many great Nintendo IP's, that are currently stuck in a prison of Nintendo's own making. Those IP's deserve to be played on real consoles, by many more gamers.
Gamers lose out by Nintendo continuing to exist as a console platform. Plain and simple.
It's your opinion that X is the only exciting game, you completely disregard anything that doesnt intrest you.And do you know for a fact they havent started Zelda U or Metroid U yet? No you don't, so just sit down. Giving snobs like you an epic trailer isn't the first step in developing a game.
I never said that they haven't started development. But where's the evidence? I'm willing to guess that by now, if development has started, they're AT LEAST two years into the development cycle. Don't they have SOMETHING to show Nintendo fans at this point?
