If you want people to stop calling it a gamecube with new controls (and online for that matter) please provide reasons that prove otherwise. graphics: same as a gamecube, so it is a gamecube with wiimotes.

The Wii is as much a Gamecube as an Accord is a Civic.

This game proves that the cake is more important than the icing.

DaysAirlines

Pie > Cake

Maybe if it's strawberry-rhubarb... *drooooool*

So... The filling is more important than the crust then

It looks... How do I say it... OK? I'm not really impressed. I'm waiting for something to blow me away like Soul Calibur did in 1999. Nothing this generation has given me that same feeling. I'm not blind. I know this game has "superior" visuals compared to the previous generation, but I'm just not feeling what everyone else is feeling.

Bah... What constitutes as "real art" in video games is too subjective...

In any case, I thought you were talking about something like this:

Now THIS is real art. 8)

Graphics matter, because video games need graphics to present themselves. The more accurate thing to say would be "Photorealistic graphics don't matter."

If you can't enjoy a game because the characters don't look real, then you probably shouldn't be playing video games in the first place.

Never lived there, but I've gone to Toronto quite a few times. Haven't been there since 2000 though. The guy who used to live there and let me stay with him all the time is now living in Saskatoon. No, he couldn't live somewhere cool like Edmonton, Vancouver, or Calgary. He has to live somewhere where it costs as much to fly there as it cost me to fly to Germany. Stupid law school....

In any case, I love Toronto! :) I just never have the money to get a hotel for a decent amount of time.

Why do Wii games look like they do? It's not for lack of hardware. I think it stems back to the previous generation of consoles, and that most developers were putting their money on Sony's cash cow. You go where the money is. Sony, for better or worse, decisively won last generation, and all the talented developers were working on making the most of PS2's outdated hardware. They did some amazing things, don't you think?

I get the impression that the industry wasn't expecting Nintendo to take off like it did. Only the smart ones saw the direction the Wii was going and decided to step on board early, smarts ones like Ubisoft. Say what you will about them, but at this point they seem to be the Wii's biggest third party supporter. What didn't help the early games was that they were developed on modified Gamecubes. These development units, I believe, DID NOT have the benefit of the Wii's additional (and faster) RAM, more efficient and 1.5x as fast processor (with 40 new instructions added), and faster GPU (with an updated TEV unit, Nintendo's version of shaders that, when programmed correctly, are better than traditional shaders).

Well, right now Nintendo is hot property. Developers that may have been skeptical before are probably going to get on the bandwagon. What's more, it is significantly cheaper to develop for the Wii, so publishers should see a return on investment much sooner, not including the fact that at this point the Wii has a larger userbase than the PS3 and is on pace to out-perform the 360 in sales in its first calendar year. You would be crazy to not develop games for the Wii. If this third party support happens, you will begin to see some awesome looking games. Many developers from the last generation never really took advantage of the Gamecube, never really tried to push it, so why would you expect them to get it right with the Wii unless they see a monetary reason? There is going to be a learning curve since they didn't get it right the first time. Remember... A game is only as good as the people programming it.

In any case, this generation of consoles, as a whole, is pretty amazing. Last generation was pretty amazing too. I think we're all going to be pleasantly surprised, no matter what platform we prefer. :)
