@LesserAngel @yearssomuch Mostly just the mechanic of being able to switch to whichever one you want to play at the time, from what I understand. I just think people are taking this out of context, and far too seriously.
Yes, the reason EA is doing this is obviously because of DRM measures being implemented directly to the discs themselves, but at least they're finally doing away with online passes. People just like to complain and pretend they're witty.
BC2's maps were part of mandatory updates, so if the Online Pass is free.. then yes, the maps are free too. BC2: Vietnam is a different story though, since it's an expansion.
It's amazing how Rockstar's comments are going over everyone's heads. Of course multiple characters have been a thing in video games.. The way that it's being handled in GTAV is the point.
@Lost_Omega Ratchet and Clank was a character switch based on the level you were on, can't say much about Heavenly Sword, but Heavy Rain was also switching characters on a by-level basis. Your argument holds no merit.
"No guys, really.. we won't spy on you. We promise. We take your privacy VERY seriously, this is why we're trying so desperately to make people okay with the idea of sticking a camera with a constant internet connection in your living room. Trust us."
Ugh, people aren't buying into this garbage.. right?
This is a PR stunt and nothing more, aimed at influencing people into the idea that always-online is a good thing. Technology like this isn't practical for the average bandwidth connection. The guys at Digital Foundry had this to say:
" 'Even assuming instantaneous processing thanks to the power of the servers, the internet is incredibly slow in terms of real-time computing.', pointing out that while a 30 frame per second game would need calculations done in 33 milliseconds, cloud computing can take 100ms or more."
I KNEW IT. Microsoft put out ridiculous rumors about the Xbox One requiring an internet connection at all times, for two reasons:
A) It got people buzzing about the new Xbox. Hype is hype. B) They were trying to make people not take notice to the fact that they were enacting some serious DRM measures. Being able to ultimately squash the always-on rumors takes the focus off of having to pay additional fees for used games and makes them look a lot better.
Screw Microsoft, Xbox One is looking like a total disappointment.
