@king_quaps: Instead of coming up with a counterargument, you resort to petty labeling. Autism isn't even an insult - just informing your incredibly premature mind.
@i_am_kesmonkey: ... and why are you reinforcing on things of which I had already realised and pointed out? This was a "study" based on a larger demographic as mentioned - there's no point in repeating on what has been said. Furthermore, doing a focused research on a smaller demographic (Gaming community in this case) isn't pointless but the nature of the questions have to be altered to be more befitting of the smaller demographic in question.
The study could easily be altered from "the proportion of non-gamer to 'identified' gamers" to the "proportion of male to female gamers" in ratio form. The thing is - that wasn't the primary point of the entire study as suggested by the title - this was more of a public opinion on video games. (In other words, this was your typical clickbait article)
As for the point regarding smartphones - well, here's an example. Here is group A - a group of individuals that occasionally jumps between Farmville and Angry Bird or probably some TCG on the phone. They don't game daily and treats it as a mere time killer / side-interest. (AKA not even a hobby)
Then there's group B - a group of individuals that plays games on a certain hardware. They play regularly and have a keen interest in the video games.
Then finally we have group C - a group of individuals that plays on both consoles and the smartphone. They play games regularly and have a keen interest in video games.
Someone who doesn't invest on a powerful PC or a console clearly has minimal interest in video games and I believe the example speaks for itself.
@king_quaps: That the title and the described nature of the study is misleading. It's a general study based on the general demographic - even those that don't actively play games.
"play video games on a computer, TV, game console, or smartphone"
"40 percent agreed with the statement “people who play violent video games are more likely to be violent themselves" "Women (47 percent) were more likely than men (31 percent) to agree with that statement."
"___ percent of those who do not play video games are unsure what to think on this issue."
... This is more of a "study" based on the general public rather than the "gaming community" in question.
