i think more to the point they meant that it is hard to come up with a review that is going to be 100% accurate with the largest demographic's experience. it's not about a real job or whatever, but unlike being able to review a movie, in which the image will never change, a game review has to take into account so many different factors that could lead to a different experience for different users (something as simple as the tv, network connection, or sound system the game is being played through by the consumer, not to mention games with multiple or branching endings). could you imagine reviewing a game that you don't like, but having to find every angle to observe it from? the time i'm sure it takes to do that is ridiculous, and putting together a clear narrative structure when doing this i'm sure is even more difficult. just saying.
wow, i'm a big film nerd, and especially fond of detective and crime fiction; both in movies and books, as well as a big jazz fan, and i think they seemed to nail it with the influences. even if you're remotely into this, i suggest watching all of those movies (especially Chinatown and Out Of The Past).
