also, not to poke in on anything, but i don't think that Volgin was really the bad guy in MGS3. or at least he wasn't the point. he was a bad guy for sure, and he needed to be stopped in terms of the story, but really, he was a backdrop to what Snake really had to achieve and just kind of a bit player in Snake's true story. he had to be in there to get the full scope and to see what put Snake in the mission, but Snake's true growth came from his relationship, and ultimately his defeat of, The Boss. it's kind of like (and i'm using this analogy because i'm assuming most people reading this have seen this movie) Shawn Of The Dead. it's not really a zombie movie. it's a romantic comedy that uses zombies and the threat of a post apocalyptic society as a backdrop for an individual's relationships with the people around him. so yeah, i don't know, if you ask me, Volgin isn't the journey, he's just on the same road.

i loved how MGS4 took some parts from each game, but i would like to see a little more variety in terms of where you're sneaking. MGS3 was great because it opened up the field and gave you big, organic environments, and creating a literal jungle really gave them the space to build a bunch of different types of jungles in MGS4; there were more levels to climb, new ways of hiding and using camouflage -but i would have liked more intimate settings, in a way. what has always brought me back to MGS1 was that great intimate, claustrophobic feeling one got from sneaking in through a confined space. i know that broadening the level design was a big deal and really created some incredible moments, and the tightness of the space was no doubt also a product of the technology at the time, but that first moment of sneaking onto the dock and taking out those guards or not being seen (because you just had to, you were on a mission!) still goes down as my favorite moment of the entire series, despite how much i love the other games. and although they are all great games, and they have their standout pieces, no other scene in any game ever has given me the same feeling as starting that game, sneaking into a facility with no weapons save my own wit, and having that early instilled device of claustrophobia and general powerlessness control the way i played the rest of the game; i was always mindful of whatever supplies i was given, and the trade off you learn early on about not using your weapons because they would make too much noise always kept me thinking about what any of my actions would mean in the game. and not giving you that next tool (the suppressor) until you had already completed a certain task in the game (proving that you could manage without it) was a superb use of pacing that bests even Zelda's tried-and-true method of rationing out items and tools as the story progresses. back on point, though, i miss the sense of Nowhere To Go! that MGS1 so wonderfully instilled in it's players. once spotted it was much harder to hide oneself, so one naturally became better at hiding. MGS2 also handles this very well in it's Tanker chapter, but i feel like that was the last true Hide Because You Have To moment in MGS; and although i will follow the series (as well as Snake, who i still consider to be one of my best friends) until the end, i will still smile, cry, and probably giggle a little bit about the first time i actually met Solid Snake, and helped complete our first mission together.

also, i'm sure someone has asked this already, but since this is coming out on PS3, does that mean we're going to get a PS3 version of Conviction?

@dannymc19 i looked it up, and apparently people have known that for a little bit already; shows how slow i am. it's pretty sweet, though, they did a great job making it look like home without us even having prior knowledge!

i was just watching this again, and i realized that i think this is supposed to be Pittsburgh! i live and am from Pittsburgh and i noticed the street sign, 79 and 52 North, with the sign under it that says Fort Duquesne Bridge, plus the yellow bridge, the tattered what-looks-to-be Pennsylvania state flag, and i'm pretty sure i know that building downtown. amazing!

wow, a whole year more? it seems like everyone is trying to remake what made the Uncharted series so good, and while this looks pretty exciting, it still doesn't look anywhere near as visually stunning. prove me wrong, Tomb Raider!

there is no way this is going to happen. a completely wordless film about traveling alone and killing huge monsters? with no supporting characters or even a character that talks? give me a break. this was one of the best games ever made, but a movie it is not. let the medium be the medium, just take it as an influence and create something interesting of your own, guy.

you're right, this is a gaming website, and it's their gaming website. if transgender and homosexual editors make you uncomfortable, go find some other, small-town, backwoods website where it's okay to make fun of pieces of the world you don't understand. in the meantime, i appreciate the opinions of these editors and am glad i ended up choosing a progressive, mature website to look at games years and years ago.

you know what, guys? first of all, good looking out, Carolyn. second, for everyone saying this is a gaming website and go get a blog or whatever, i think you've missed the point entirely. this is a gaming website; this is a space to discus things that matter in games, and although some of you are uncomfortable with even someone speaking intelligently about real issues that carry over into games, maybe you shouldn't look at this website. the same people that want to argue that games are a viable medium for telling stories and can honestly portray human feelings as complex as love are the same people that get uncomfortable as soon as they see anything that seems even remotely non-hetero. it's embarrassing to see adults act like this, of any gender or sexual affiliation. even as a hetero male, i still find it wonderful and fascinating that with the aid of a couple high-profile releases as of late, members of the Gamespot staff have been able to use these games to relate to the situations in their own lives and be honest and willing enough to share it with the rest of the world.
