That’s right, yeah. I’ve had a team working on this over the past few weeks, and what we’ve come up with can be reduced to one fundamental concept. People are not wearing enough hats.
@mled No... actually I am right... PSF doesn't use sound fonts, but short looped samples and a reference to where they fit. While MIDI is like sheet music and uses a individual instrument and note samples (sound fonts). You could make a sound font out of different cats and then have a cat quartet version of JENOVA, so someone could make the PC of the PSX version. My main point was that you could make the midi version sound better than the PSX one. Seen as it uses OGG recordings, as already stated, this argument is pointless.
@WeWerePirates @zanelli @danmas6 I don't think you understand how midi sound fonts work. Still OGG recordings are going to be terrible. Modding in the remastered sound track is the way to go, or maybe even picking out a remixed soundtrack off OCRemix. :)
@WeWerePirates @danmas6 I haven't done it for ages (since midi was actually used; years and years ago) but you can tweak your midi instruments and you should be able to get it to sound better than PSX version with a bit of messing around. Unless they are actually mp3 recordings of midi.
