Go for it, there are plenty of great games for the system. If you're a fan of old arcade games, the Colecovision had some of the best arcade ports around. Also, if you ever got bored with it, they made an adaptor that lets you play Atari 2600 games on it. Worth the purchase in my opinion.

My personal favorite system to collect for is the Atari 2600, for a number of reasons:

1) There's a ton of different console, and label variations if you're into that kinda stuff

2) There's something to collect for everybody. Games can range from under $1 to $1000, so there's plenty to be on the lookout for when looking for games.

3) Most of the really good games are relatively easy to find, and pretty cheap too.

4) Plenty of timeless classics for the system.

5) And most importantly (and of course opinions will vary on this) most of the games are simply fun.

Just try a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol on the contacts, that should get the games working in no time. Keep on rubbing until the q tip comes out clean.

[QUOTE="Flamestos"]Most: PS2 - 478 Least: N64 - 5Flamestos

That is many PS2 games...

I have the most games for the 2600 (150) but the NES is close at 140. After that, my games are spread pretty evenly at around 50-80 games per system.

Yeah, I bought alot of games when I went through a period of major PS2 collecting. It's not all Shin Megami Tensei and Okami pretty though. A good bit of lemons are sitting in my collection.

Well when you have such an impressively large amount of games for a single system, it's understandable if you have a few stinkers in it. My personal collection used to be like that. Right around the time that I was reaching 1000 games, I decided that it would be much more satisfying to own 1000 games I am proud of owning rather than say 800 games I'm proud of and 200 I'm not. So I sold off about 200 games and replaced them with ones I was more interested in.

But man... I am still impressed at 478 PS2 games... :D

Some good ones for the 2600 are:

Fishing Derby: good competitive head to head action

Freeway: same

Kaboom!: crazy fun trying to beat each others high score

Warlords: technically better with four people, but still a blast anyway you play it.

For just a system with the hookups and 1 controller, I think somewhere around $40 would be fair. Games could make a big difference, depending on what you have.

What is the differnces between the SNES andSega Versions? framerate?

BLBxLakers24

SNES version has much better sound quality in terms of crowd noise and the player grunts. It also has sharper, more well-defined player models. The Genesis version has a bit faster gameplay, while the SNES version runs at a more deliberate pace, making it a bit easier to line up your hits. The Genesis version also has better statistics keeping. Overall it pretty much ends up being personal preference. I personally don't prefer one over the other, they're both great.
