This did come a bit later than some wanted, but I'm glad they did it right rather than rushing it. Those saying this is "too little, too late" are just being silly. This makes every video of BF3 look tame by comparison (at least from a visual standpoint). Crysis 2 is now the best looking game on the market. What the hell else could you want in a visual polish patch?
Too bad you can only download this game from the EA store now as it has been ganked on steam permenantly because for some reason it violated Valves user agreement. I have been hearing rumors that what EA is trying to do is to charge you for a temporary license when you download in other words you would never own the game and the license would expire in a year or so. Do yourself a favor and read that long agreement before you buy off their network or get in on disc.
Crytek commited a serious blunder by not giving us this at release date. It was their moment to shine and show the world that the Cryengine is king of the hill. Now when the hype over Crysis 2 is gone and done with, DX11 support just doesn't make the same headlines as it could've done. Crysis 2 could've been the toast of the town. The benchmark every aspiring newcomer had to beat to become the new heavyweight champion of the world. Or king of the PC as it's also called. Hell maybe even ID Software will be given a chance to recapture the king of the hill throne again. Crytek just doesn't have the same high standing with me for abandoning my belowed PC. Yeah I get sore. Yeah I don't forget easily. I'm a vindictive bastard I know, but that's how I am. Maybe next time Crytek. First Dragon Age 2 then Crysis 2. What's next? A console only Total War game?
Its a damn shame that Crytek pissed all over the platform that made its original game an instant classic and not even have the common curtosy of calling it rain. the Crytek engine has so much to offer, I don't understand why they would take two steps back by refurbishing the game to run properly on consoles when they could take dozens of leaps forward by investing in the PC. Crytek should've done what DICE is doing with Battlefield 3; engineering the game to fit up and beyond the standards of the platform that can handle the game, then working their way down to the platform(s) that can't handle what the game has to offer. Crytek could be achieving so much more if they did this..its to bad, and a little to late on their part by making this update when it should've been there from the start of the release.
I'm glad I held off on buying this game. I'm a PC gamer and I wasn't going to settle for some dumbed-down console port. At least this update will make it look more like the PC only game it should have been. I think I will pick it up now.
The physics are still BS, and the gameplay is still just a lame CoD clone. I've played the original game maxed out and my PC components lived to tell the tale, so, this doesn't satisfy me.
although i finished this game twice this epic improvement we've all been waiting for is gonna make me play it again and live the crysis 2 experience we wished for
Kinda like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, should have done it to begin with imo, still going to dl it though and replay the game though
Not bad thats for sure, little brother is stepping up to the plate hopefully once they release the sdk and editor this game will reclaim the graphical milestones set by its predecessor.
"Downloading Ultrasuperawesome upgrade. 18 %, 34%, 75%, 97%, 98%, 99%... 99,1%,... 99,3%... I'm sorry user. This is too much for your ram. I think I'm pretty much gonna explode now. Farewell user!" KA-BOOM!
This kind of thing is why I'll always be primarily a PC gamer. I'm a visual person, and if the gameplay is solid, visual quality makes all the difference in the immersiveness of the game experience. Consoles are always limited by their old hardware.
This is just a preview of what Directx11 can do now , but somehow I get the feeling that it will take years until we will see a big change in graphics that will leave Directx9 in a pool of blood . Directx 11 looks better than Directx 9 , unfortunately that is not a big change .
