My dad got me Wolfenstein for Christmas in 1992, I remember it being delivered by a UPS guy. I played that game all day, and for months afterward.

From what I've read, "Rage" is good but not great, which is a bummer since it's been 7 years since their last studio release. At some point we have to take studios at face value, rather than what they've accomplished in the past.

Doom 3 was the last game I was legitimately scared to play, but I'm still impressed that I can be scared by the first Doom nowadays. There's something about the gore in the first one that also seems like it's never been topped. Yeah, and I was introduced to it when I was 6. Mental damage? probably.

Doom (and Doom II; hard to separate them) remain as one (two) of my most favorite games of all time. I still play them today. I think I will play them today, just because they are that awesome.

"Wolfenstein created pillars of the genre today... you could explore environments..." BULLCRAP! FPS's today don't let you explore, they only give you a linear path to follow!

Favourite? Quake 3 Arena or DOOM? Or DOOM II for that matter? Maybe DOOM just clinches it but it's a close thing. I played the DOOMs recently on XBLA. Would've got Quake 3 on XBLA as well but it didn't have local multiplayer! So I haven't played Quake since the days of the Dreamcast when the character's face would appear on the "Visual Memory Unit". Maybe I should dust it off and revisit it, just to see if it's better than DOOM or not...

Quake remains one of my favorite games of all time. That big dude groaning as he lugged his chainsaw across the floor and the sound of my grenade bouncing off the floor and jibbing him. AWESOME!

Quake was probably the very first first person shooter game I played, many many years ago. Back when the circle-strafe was king and no-one knew what regenerating health constituted.

I miss those good old days. We had ID, Epic, Bioware, Monolith, Looking Glass Studios, black isle, bullfrog,Red Storm Ent....etc.. it makes me sad to think about how awesome PC gaming could be if they still made games because they loved making games and not because they love money. Its still a great time to be a PC gamer and I see it coming full circle again but sadly i don't see it reaching the level of epicness it was in the 90s. PC is in need of a good quake 3 or UT style game where skill is required to be good. I want to be killed because the other guy was better then me not because he is stilling in a chopper gunner seat shooting a mini gun at red triangles.

Great Video. It's a pity that I never got to play any of Id's games before (never had a powerful pc). But seeing this reminds me of how important this company is. I'll buy Rage in the near future just because I want to own at least 1 id game.

We loaded Quake Arena on the computers in our Comm. Tech class in high school during a period in which we had a semi-permanent substitute. All I can remember is this little country dude playing with us and yelling "KUH-WAKE DAMAGE!" I still say that phrase and laugh about it to this day.

@dannyodwyer Id, ego and super-ego are the three parts of the psychic apparatus defined in Sigmund Freud's structural model of the psyche; they are the three theoretical constructs in terms of whose activity and interaction mental life is described. According to this model of the psyche, the id is the set of uncoordinated instinctual trends; the ego is the organised, realistic part; and the super-ego plays the critical and moralizing role.... from Wikipedia.org

Definitely got kudos for ID for helping to make gaming what it is today. I remember hanging out in the computer lab during lunch period in high school playing multiplayer deathmatch over LAN when the original Doom first came out, at least until the school administration figured out that's what we were doing and removed our privileges to the computer lab during lunch and deleted the game from all the PCs. Way to stifle creativity. I might have actually pursued a career in game design if I would have just gotten a little more encouragement in school.

What was my favorite id game? Probably Doom. Doom 2 was nice as well, but 3 was horrible imo. I also really love Commander Keen 4. I just started playing Rage on the PC, and so far it's pretty good; hard to put down.
