Will the Steam Controller Replace Your Keyboard and Mouse?

A shame, I didn't exactly have high hopes for the concept but it looks like a bit of a failure. I have a wired 360 controller but at this point I think I'd go for a Dualshock 4 if I want a wireless option for the couch.

When will companies realize the ultimate controller would have six face buttons, real triggers, L1 and R1 BELOW the triggers, PS style joysticks, and a Sega Saturn style D-Pad.

No. It doesn't look like it'll even replace my Logitech F310 gamepad.

This is a controller. Its nothing like a keyboard and mouse. Lol.

This kind of sealed the deal for me. Not for the steam controller unfortunately, but for the Elite Xbox controller.

Wait what? why would the steam controller ever take the place of keyboard and mouse? PC is Pc and console is console and the steam controller is made for the steam box console.

The only thing that will replace mouse and keyboard, is mind control. Or whatever you call it when you think stuff and a machine interprets those thoughts.

I am sure there are some neat controllers out there, but for pure ergonomic comfort coupled with precision and speed, there is nothing objectively better than mouse and keyboard.

Yeah well, i guess it depends what type of games you want to play. Can you play Red Orchestra 2 with this controller? Or Heroes and Generals?

I mean i had my crack at at a mid range Alienware Alpha System, under the impression i can play these games with a 360 controller on my couch, to find out either "no you can't, it requires a keyboard and mouse", or...."you maybe can, having to run thru hoops trying to run different programs", to...."why would you want too, being the game would be unplayable anyway, given people with keyboards will wipe you out very quickly, rendering the game unplayable anyway, noobie".

It's just a huge pain in the butt. What i learned quickly, was that games that are out on Consoles, you can use a controller, but exclusive PC Games, most probably cannot (which negated the rationale for me purchasing the system to get the games i really wanted to play, that do not come out on Consoles).

It took but 2 days to send the system back, and i bought an Xbox One lol. If i'm only gonna play the console games with a controller anyway, just pop it in and play, and end the bs.

How can it be bad for an FPS ? user skill ? no way should an analogue be better than the 1 : 1 movement emulation of a mouse pad, maybe it is just a firmware issue as mentioned , nothing else makes sense.

Why would you WANT to ditch keyboard and mouse? Any real PC gamer would never say that. The Xbox Controller maybe but not the keyboard and mouse..

That is a really dumb question. The intent is not to replace the mouse and keyboard, it's to offer another option somewhere between the current line of game controllers and PC controllers.

The whole point of the controller is you play a shooter using it as a mouse.... why would you change it to emulating a thumb stick for an FPS? That's retarded, you might as well just buy a controller with a second analog stick.

The best controller for an FPS though was the Wii Mote or Move controller, they were just perfect when developers got them right. I'd still pick a keyboard and mouse over anything else though.

It would replace an Xbox One/PS4 controller for me if those consoles supported it, it will mean I can finally play games I never would have before while sitting on the Sofa, but it's never replacing the keyboard and mouse.

No but it will probably replace my XBOX controller if I had one.

I can't see the appeal to make me spend money on this when my PS3 controller works perfectly.
