Bethesda says it will make 'considerably more noise' in 2013

Skyrim publisher teases new announcements for this year.

306 Comments

Publisher Bethesda is aiming to make "considerably more noise" in 2013 than it did in 2012, the company's vice president of PR and marketing, Pete Hines, has said.

No Caption Provided

Speaking on the OXM podcast, Hines teased upcoming announcements from the publisher alongside its known lineup of The Elder Scrolls Online and DLC for Dishonored.

"Obviously The Elder Scrolls Online is out, and we've got the Dishonored DLC," said Hines, "but we will be announcing new stuff and making some noise, and I think when we get the chance to show you guys what we're up to, that you'll sit up and take notice."

Hines said Bethesda was working with "passionate teams who know what they're doing," but would not go into details.

As for what Bethesda might be looking to show, last week the publisher confirmed that the id Software shooter Doom 4 had been rebooted but was still in development, and many gamers would almost certainly be excited to hear about a follow-up to 2011's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

I doubt very highly that there will be any new elder scrolls games just yet.... with skyrim and it's dlc's and TES online all within the past couple of years. But dammit Bethesda it's time for Fallout 4!!!

OMG I'm still playing Skyrim including DLCs, mods etc. And I'm planning on getting ESO so if there is an Elder Scrolls follow up to Skyrim coming soon, I am doomed. Loving it though.

@Davhut

They wouldn't release a new TES game so close to TESO being released. And they will probably stop supporting Skyrim when TESO comes out. Patches MAY still be available but I highly doubt any new DLC will be released beyond that point.

@Scorpion1813 @Davhut Todd Howard's team has nothing to do with TESO so I don't see how you can even think that. In fact, Bethesda isn't working on the game at all, it's been given to ZeniMax Online, the only thing those two companies share is their parent company ZeniMax Media.

@Neomaniac15

Skyrim is a pretty old game now and had plenty of DLC and patching support already. I'm not ruling it out, but I highly doubt more patches will be released once TESO is released. It would mean losing players from TESO that are going back to playing Skyrim again - and that means they won't renew there subscription during this time.

Since both these companies are own by a parent company, it is this parent company that gets the profit from the frnachise and then allocates budgets for future titles within that franchise. they will try to minimalise the loss of money as much as possible, and that will probably mean no more DLC (to distract buyers from paying subscription fees for TESO).

As far as patches go, the game is fairly old now. And Bethesda should be working on their next game. Paying people to work on patches for Skyrim, when they couild be helping out with the next game is only good if the previous game (Skyrim) is still earning them money. And once TESO comes out, and the Skyrim DLCs stopped (most likely), there's no more money in Skyrim.

And that's all the Parent companies decision to make. they are the guys calling the shots as to where their resources are being spent. This is why they allocate budgets and funding - and they can pull that funding for Skyrim at any time they see fit. Bethesda with have to #dealwithit.

@Scorpion1813 @Neomaniac15 I'm talking about ceasing support for Skyrim or any of Bethesda's IPs. Like I said, the company that's working on TESO has nothing to do with TES and visa versa. We've seen a scenario like this before, where World of Warcraft spelled doom for the Warcraft series with Blizzard diverting all of it's resources to the MMO. I think ZeniMax Media is making an attempt to ensure that that happens here. Obviously we won't see another TES for at least another two years if not three, they've got a Fallout on the way, for starters.

@Scorpion1813 @Neomaniac15 Also the market will be semi-burnt out on TES for a while; It doesn't matter how much you love burgers, every now and then you just need some chicken.

That doesn't change anything. Their parent company won't allow them to release 2 seperate games from the same franchise so close together. It's business 101. They would be competing with each other for sales, and that would mean they would lose sales from those who WOULD have bought both had they not been released such a short time apart.

@Neomaniac15 @Scorpion1813 @Davhut I still don't think there's any chance that their next game will be in the Elder Scrolls series. It'll either be new IP or the next Fallout game.

The sooner they stop making DLC for Skyrim, the quicker I will be able to get my hands on a Complete Edition. I'm holding out buying a PC version for this very reason!

Why? Because of mods? Yeah... I'm not a big fan of mods. The only ones I MAY use would be ones that improve textures and lighting and stuff.

I'm not really missing out if I'm not interested. If that was the case everyone would be missing out on everything they aren't able to experience, no matter how good or bad it is.

I prefer sticking with the orignally intended experience - and like I said, I may get mods that would enhance that experience, but not ones that change it.

Each to their own. I understand that people like mods that completely change the game experience and those that break immersion (ex: Halo armour). I'm not stopping them from doing that. I don't want to be forced to play it though.

@Scorpion1813 @SirNormanislost Man, you're missing out, If you've got the ram to run them, mods are awesome. I like the DLC too, but mods just bring so much more to the table.

I would be excited for a new Elder Scrolls sequel. TESO is a big waste of time in my opinion. They should be spending the resources on a proper TES game.

Other than that, none of there other current franchises are all that interesting either. So let's hope they are planning to annouce a new IP or something.... but it better not delay a new TES game like TESO most like will.

Like most of you, I'm hoping this translates into Fallout 4 news and hopefully Skyrim DLC. Dragonborn, despite being a great add on, was just not the epic end to things that Shivering Isles was.

@d3nR @2bitSmOkEy Ideally I'd rather play F4 with next gen graphics as well, but I wouldn't exactly be upset if they released it running on the Skyrim engine either.

Plus I assume that would mean we would could play the game quicker as that would likely mean they've been working on it for a while now.

How about opening all the old countries in TES. I read an article a while back about a modder who no-clipped Skyrim and found the entire known TES world was available. It would be cool if they plugged in all the areas of all the games and used Skyrim as the jumping off point.

Even if they did each one in DLC seperately. I would "stand up and notice" that.

Oh and FALLOUT 4

So I'll be able to run backwards, swinging my sword in one hand and casting heal in the other, all while shouting out in "Next-Gen"?

Oh Bethesda you. Get with it, shooters are where it's at. If you aren't running backwards, screaming with an AK with graphics from 2007 then you're doing something wro... Actually, just saw Skyrim, you're fine.
