Bethesda says it will make 'considerably more noise' in 2013

Skyrim publisher teases new announcements for this year.

Publisher Bethesda is aiming to make "considerably more noise" in 2013 than it did in 2012, the company's vice president of PR and marketing, Pete Hines, has said.

Speaking on the OXM podcast, Hines teased upcoming announcements from the publisher alongside its known lineup of The Elder Scrolls Online and DLC for Dishonored.

"Obviously The Elder Scrolls Online is out, and we've got the Dishonored DLC," said Hines, "but we will be announcing new stuff and making some noise, and I think when we get the chance to show you guys what we're up to, that you'll sit up and take notice."

Hines said Bethesda was working with "passionate teams who know what they're doing," but would not go into details.

As for what Bethesda might be looking to show, last week the publisher confirmed that the id Software shooter Doom 4 had been rebooted but was still in development, and many gamers would almost certainly be excited to hear about a follow-up to 2011's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

I still want better combat, voice acting and animations. You're in luck Bethesda because your standards are still pretty low in that department! Should be easy to top.

Please note I still think Skyrim was awesome... Just saying it's got some rough patches!

@Adavanter For a game that big and versatile the combat and animations are awesome and there is not a game that is this complex. Don't know what you want in a geme but bethesda's has the highest standers compared to all the other company's(EA,activision, ubisoft)

@DeKuip @Adavanter The combat has always been lacking since Oblivion. Not much changed aside from shouts which is really just another form of magic.

As for animations... I'd argue they could be much better regardless of scale. It's the only area they are really lacking. I'm sure it's an interesting design discussion to see why they do what they do... but I still remember watching the opening in Skyrim and thinking... what is this god awful mess?

@topeira @Adavanter @DeKuip Seriously does anybody even understand how much they put skyrim and stil its ONLY 3GB of space. If you then also expect the combat to be like that of other rpg like the witcher or something like that you are living is a dream world. There is not nor ever has been a game so detailed and big as the elderscrols and everytime it looks like they are in head of time compared to other company's.

So seriously WTF do you want more out of a game. Bethesda is the only game company i respect and that's because they give me my money's worth.

@Adavanter @DeKuip Combat has been pretty bad in TES games, period. If you think the combat in Skyrim or Oblivion is bad, go play Morrowind. I still think Morrowind is the best of the 3, but god damn did I hate hitting a mudcrab for 3 hours missing 95% of my hits because of dicerolls.

Skyrim was a step in the right direction with combat, though. They did a good job making it a bit more visceral, still pretty dull overall though. They took a step back in the story/character department, and did a some good and bad things with the RPG elements.

@topeira @Adavanter @DeKuip

I think they might rely a little to much on the mod community, which is sad for console-players.

@Adavanter @DeKuip yea. skyrim is huge and absolutely amazing, but the animations and mediocre melee combat is lacking (a lot to do with the feel of the animations). there are mods on the PC that make every hit create a small stagger, time blocking, stamina reduction from blocking instead of health reduction, dual wield blocking etc etc which improves the combat 10 folds, but if these features were a part of the vanilla combat than less ppl would complain about animations and combat.
bethesda are close, but they chose not to do that for reasons i dont fully understand.
