BioWare details save import options for Dragon Age: Inquisition

New save file system allows users to create customised historical world states from scratch to use in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

BioWare has revealed a method for creating save files to use in its upcoming game, Dragon Age: Inquisition. Posted on the official BioWare Blog, Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah announced the Dragon Age Keep.

No Caption Provided

The Dragon Age Keep allows players to create a customised Dragon Age historical world state, which carries over choices made in Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II.

Players will be able to customise "as much or as little about the world of Thedas" using the Dragon Age Keep. This customised world state will then be possible to import into Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Darrah also stated that importing game saves is an issue that BioWare is "continuing to investigate". In particular, how saves from previous games could be utilised to "populate the initial world state of the Dragon Age Keep". Darrah did not specify whether importing saves directly into Dragon Age: Inquisition will be possible.

Fans interested in the Dragon Age Keep can sign up for the beta on the site. The Dragon Age Keep is scheduled for public launch in 2014.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is the third major title in BioWare's fantasy role-playing game series, Dragon Age. BioWare has confirmed that players will be able to create characters from multiple races. Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2014.

I hope the save import register on what happened at the end of Dragon Age 2, If not I'll be really annoyed.

paraphrasing dialogue wheel = not an RPG

singular voice actor = capture singular personality = not an RPG

action packed fast paced melee combat in the sequel = 180 degree switch from the original focused on pause tactics strategy required.

go one step further and shit on the pc crowd by denying them the ability to buy and launch the game from their outlet of choice. forcing origin as a game launcher, for the sole purpose to be able to brag to shareholders how many users you have using your "service" can EA get any more heavy handed and anti-consumer?

i think i speak for many people when i say bioware is no longer my favorite developer. i have moved on. my money will be spent elsewhere. its a shame they have become such corporate shills. you make such an epic game of the decade game, and then shit the bed. you won't get a dollar from me if you treat me like a fucking mindless consumer.

@wowgrandpa dialog wheel works great in many rpg-type games. but you're right on with everything else. 2 was just a bad 3rd person action game. seemed like a spit in the face to the Neverwinter Nights and Origins model that Dragon Age had come to represent.

the fact that it was Dragon Age and that I kept thinking something important involving my Origins\Awakening character was going to happen kept me playing but it was a major disappointment all the way through.

@vadagar1 now in gneneral i would agree with you on that. However the dragon quest series has shown that multiplayer can work in rpgs, for example in some of the games interacting with other peoples games alowed u to build a town from scratch that alowed u to get rare equipment and other goodies

I think they have learned their lesson after the mistakes of the first two, so this game should be the culmination of that knowledge. Then again, EA will no doubt shoehorn in multiplayer of some sort, which is going back a step, in my opinion.

As long as they have something similar to what ME2 and 3 had (Genesis), it should be fine.

All of the best developers have made mistakes in the past, and if they truly are great they learn from those mistakes to make a much better game. I believe that Bioware tried to take things people enjoyed about Mass Effect and implement them into DA II but did so clumsily. If Bioware finds away to skillfully mesh the gameplays of ME and DA, abandon that concept and take the series in a new effective direction, reverts back to and improves upon Origins design, or a mixture of the three Dragon Age: Inquisition will be received better or equal to Origns.

If ,however, Bioware does not produce a coherent link between Inquisition previous Dragon Age plots, challenging; tactical; and enjoyable combat, more meaningful sidequests, diverse and intriguing areas, numerous deep; contrasting; and branching dialogue options, and a much deeper character customization and leveling system they will remove any doubt that they actually have sold out and no longer care about ingenuity and quality.

Though I consider it a huge let down, I really enjoyed DA 2 and I believe ME3 is one of the greatest games ever made even if it's ending didn't meet expectations, so really Bioware has only one strike for me and I still have the utmost confidence in there products.

@R083R70 well said! personally I hope they have something along the lines of what they did with red cliff in DAO, it was an interesting part of the story that had you runing all around the land and fighting everything from undead and cultists to a freaking high dragon I loved how interactive it felt and how it made me wonder where i was going next

@R083R70 Mass Effect 3 is definitely one of the greatest games ever made. But I loved the ending lol. I enjoyed Dragon Age II very much myself, I don't see why it was torn down like a fallen idol by so many fans

@Fartman7998 @R083R70 ME3 was SHIT and i'm not even referencing the ending, take the ending as you will the game was rushed and of poor quality the maps layout wich casey claimed were BIGGER MORE DIVERSE ,were still corridors now wide with option of go left or right or down INTO THE SAME PLACE, thats not diverse.

the upgrades and weapons were ridiculously and poorly placed into the map, ohh yeah the world is in the brink of destru- oh look a shiny new armor set just laying about, lucky !

or the stupid fetch "quests" that had no SENSE into the narritive and MINIMAL influence on the game, you just get a thank you and sliver of data from the codec, if you BOTHER to read it.

All the enemies were lame and having cerberus go 180 and idiot ball handler was the epithomy of stupidity, they needed cannon fodder so why not give us the batarians ? it made much more sense in the context of previous games.

ME3 need another year or 2, they should had withheld the game for next gen with frost engine.

@razor_rj @Fartman7998 And while we're not on the ending, I just finished the Walking Dead, so I'm going to be frank when comes to the ME3 ending. If you liked it, you're either an idiot or you have terrible taste. Compare that load of crap to the ending of TWD. THAT's how you do a bittersweet ending. (btw, I'd love hate TWD, because I first bought it for my Mac and it is literally unplayable on Mac because of bugs that are still not patched. I just can't because the game and especially the ending were just so well crafted.) Heck, there were great bittersweet prior to the ending in ME3, but the ending had the emotional depth Phantom Menace Anakin. Which would have been ok if the the ending connected intellectually instead of being stolen straight from Generic Magazine's "How to Cop Out From Left Field in a Sci-Fi Series."

@razor_rj @Fartman7998 Amen. ME3 was not a good game. Ignore the whole ending debacle for a moment. Who's the game's hero? Hint it's Liara. She found the superweapon, she built the superweapon, and she did a lot of reaper/cerberus killing. Shepard? He got to push a button. Big frickin deal.

Eh, I could go on about how ME3 failed to have a villain, basically ignored everything that happened in ME2 (foreshadowing?boreshadowing!), had an ending that was overdetermined and how literally no one's actions make sense at the end. (Oh I can't resist an example of the last. Hey if mass relays get destroyed, the wipe out whole systems right? Right? Then why on earth did the reapers all gather in a system that has a mass relay ready for destruction! Oh I can't resist another: when Shepard and co. charge the beam, why don't the reapers, say, TURN OFF THE M*****F****** BEAM!).

SR4 did something similar in letting you move your creator over if you saved him/her online.

As someone who liked both Origins AND II (I KNOW!!!!) Inquisition should allow you to decide if you want to continue your story as the Grey Warden or Hawke.

@wicked_laugh No. Bioware explained why they weren't continuing either of the two. The answer: because BSN and their headcanons. While I would like the idea, it won't and shouldn't happen for Bioware's sake. I don't want to stomach another entitled tirade akin to the Retake movement ripe with cupcakes of justice because someone's fanfic got quashed.

@wicked_laugh The problem is that, unless Inquisition is like -immediately- after DA2 the Grey Warden & Alistair should both have died of natural causes (Grey Wardens have dramatically short lifespans).

@Falru @wicked_laugh no, not my gray warden...besides wasnt there a warden that fought off the blight in her system ? easily work around, after all the warden may travel with morrigan into the magical mirror, so punish all those who called her a bitch and "murdered" her instead, allowing us who followed her to keep ours, suck on that haters.

"unless Inquisition is like -immediately- after DA2 "

which it won't be, as one/two novels have already progressed the story forward in the universe. The story will pick up during the mage-templar war, and not during the run up to it. (i f***ing hate this outsourcing of a game's story to a book -.-)

To the people who say EA screwed Bioware go piss off. EA has had a hand in Bioware games since 2007 which include seeing Mass Effect to the end, the fantastic PC port of Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins and it's dlc and Mass Effect 2. So to say EA screwed Bioware just doesn't work. Do some research on what you hate before you start sounding like a politician.

@Catz_03 you're tripping son... I remember Bioware's history clearly and the first major screw-up I remember to this day was making Dragon Age Origins a console game... it was supposed to be Baldur's Gate spiritual successor, but as soon as EA came into the picture they started streamlining everything about DA:O which was probably even more complex than what we got... EA are some money-hungry reapers (pun intended)... we need to find a way to stop them

Again do some research before you come at me spewing your biased hate.

Random Loot Gen system, ill be in.DA 1 was ok, DA 2 didn't bother to play it, too HUGE a departure from 1 should have been a Dragon Age Adventure Series Vol 1.That way it wouldn't be confused for a sequel, cause lets face it Hawke and entire game wasn't anything but a stand alone game. Hence I didn't care for 2, Now here comes 3, some minor suggestions:

better loots for all that is holy make an item system please.DA 1 pissed me off soo bad in that aspect, we killed the broodmother!! wait some coin and sub par crap, nooooo....

The Class system from DA 1 was nice, how each had a line series. Can be Improved on and is a MUST for Da 3, Sure your the leader of the INC but that is story filler and plot, not character for gameplay.

Fewer Companions but more depth, I would rather have 8 books of interaction walking around in the form of 2 book's worth each companion 4 MAX then 8 selectable bots any day with say 12 paragraphs of dribble.Cameo's are ok, but make sure the companions are limited to around 4 for more story..Hell three or even 2 so long as each one was 2 books worth of interaction.

well that's it for now..
