Which console is the most powerful? On paper, Microsoft's Xbox One X console is the most powerful system with its 6 teraflops of performance. This is over 4.5x of that of the original Xbox One and 1.4x the PS4 Pro, its closest console competitor.

No Caption Provided

Which console offers the most storage space? The console that currently offers the most storage space out of the box is the 2TB version of the Xbox One S. It’s worth mentioning that you can swap out the storage drives on the PlayStation 4 consoles, which is something Xbox One systems currently can’t do.

Which console is the smallest? Being a handheld console, the Nintendo Switch is the smallest system here measuring 4x6.8x2.1 inches.

Which console is the heaviest? While the Xbox One X is the smallest Xbox console yet, it's also the heaviest out the bunch, weighing in at 8.4 pounds.

And Nintendo drops the ball again with the most underpowered System of this generation.

Can't wait for the day they go 3rd party it will be better for everyone. No more underpowered hardware, no more gimmicks, The developers there will be able to make some absolutely stunning games on more powerful hardware.

@dragonsama: nintendo won't go 3rd party, because nintendo once said that other system is not optimize to their liking, so it wouldn't work well for them.

@dragonsama: It's "underpowered" compared to the others because it's portable. Look at the weight - 7-8 lbs each for the other consoles, while the Switch is a mere .72 lb (or .82 with the controllers).

You can't take the Xbox and PS4 with you and play them while travelling by plane. And they certainly didn't drop the ball. It's selling so well that stores can't keep it in stock. It's not a best seller only because Nintendo underestimated demand and didn't make enough of them at launch.

@johnrohan:

1. Nintendo themselves just called it a "Home Console" in their own press conference. The machine is underpowered as a home console. nothing changes that.

2. Right now hardcore Nintendo Fans are buying because lets be honest there has been nothing out there for them for years. the real test of sales will be after they hit about 5-6 million units sold.

3. Never buy the Nintendo "We can't keep up with demand" line. They have been like that for Decades. Even the WiiU was hard to get it's first year. They are either absolutely horrible at anticipating market demand and if that is the case a lot of people in charge their supply planning needs to be fired. Or they always do this because "scarcity" increases their demand. And nothing Nintendo has done in 3 decades has shown that they aren't keeping supply just under demand to try to drive sales.

@dragonsama: Nintendo effectively placed themselves in the 'why not have both' bracket again. Most people this gen already have an Xbox One or PS4, so why not buy the Nintendo Switch? It worked very well for them with the original Wii, where both the Playstation and Xbox press were like 'Yeah sure, we like the Wii, you should buy it... after buying our console.'

What wasn't anticipated was that the Wii would win that generation in console sales definitively. Games, well, games were a different story. There was maybe 12 games worth owning on the Wii that were actually good games, not just glorified motion control app games. But, it worked for Nintendo, because they were moments from drowning before the Wii rocketed their earnings into space.

At this point you buy a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games. They summon some dark magic to make their exclusives look way better than anything 3rd party developers can accomplish on their platform. Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 being a great example from the Wii, no other game looked anywhere near that great on the Wii console. Mario Odyssey and Zelda Breath of the Wild, great current examples on the Switch.

Being a console on the go, with more and more people living in cities and using public transportation, grabbing the Switch off the Dock mid game and walking out the door is a huge appeal now. I agree, time will tell if their momentum can continue, but I believe they've sold 7.63 million units at the moment since launch, which is more than half the number the Wii U sold entirely in it's near 5 year life cycle.

I even saw an article that Nintendo has almost made a billion in profit, because they refused to sell the Switch at a loss. So every console sold is extra money in the bank.

This has been a know secret since the snes days, and since then 3rd parties have been crying foul.. unless you were a 2nd party Nintendo never shared ALL the bells and whistle secret of there systems can do to 3rd parties..

@slypher9: I have actually read, during the Wii days, that Nintendo just wasn't very accommodating to 3rd party sellers. I assume with the abysmal lack of third party games on Wii U, that relationship did not improve.

However, since Nintendo got a new CEO, it seems 3rd party developers are more excited to put games on the Switch. The only game that was super impressive on a Nintendo platform that wasn't a direct 2nd party, was Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube. RE4 was jaw dropping on the cube, I owned an original Xbox at the time too(Which was more powerful than Gamcube, which was more powerful than PS2) and it was one of the most impressive looking games of that generation.

@thelostscribe: yea BUT RE4 was exclusive it just came to other systems once the Nintendo deal served its term.. so they shared stuff with capcom back then...

Its a incentive perk if you let the game be exclusive to there system... Bayonetta 2 was also very beautiful...

Strangely I've bought piles of games for Nintendo systems for years, and most of them haven't been on Switch.

Never had a 4k TV before or a PS4 Pro so when I get my first 55 inch 4k, HDR Samsung or Sony TV i'll be getting both consoles! Can't wait. That Anthem game looked stunning, as did Metro. PS4 Pro has some kickass hardware, but Microsoft just took the cake.

@wolfpup7: LCD is not a better tech. You are welcome to you opinion but I've seen the high end Samsung "Quantum Dot" display next to the Sony Bravia and LG OLED models and the difference to me is pretty clear that OLED is a better display. Not as bright but my OLED is plenty bright for my dark room.

Also, LCD screens have had their share of issues and that includes the high end as I've owned quite a few of them. Not going to say they are not good as I'm using a Vizio 4K/HDR display in a seperate room. I still prefer the OLED screen overall though.

@Tegorian: Of course it's better tech. It's more reliable, uses less power, and looks fantastic.

High end displays of any type look great, and the high end LCD sets review well and similarly to the high-end OLED sets. Unlike the OLED sets however, they don't wear out, and they're a lot brighter (and don't fade over time).

@wolfpup7: Not sure where or how you came to that ill informed opinion but the sets are similar but OLED is a better screen. The lifetime on both LCD/OLED are similar and although LCD is brighter it CAN'T reach the same levels of black which in my opinion negates needing a brighter TV so unless you are watching in a room with direct sunlight that brightness aspect is a moot point. Also, when it comes to uniformity and viewing angle OLED wins. Power consumption is NOT the marker by which most consumers purchase a TV at all. I'll just leave the CNET comparison from this year there for you to do some actual informed reading.

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/led-lcd-vs-oled/

Edit: Older LCD, see marketed cleverly as LED and other terms to make is seem new and futuristic, is not a better tech it is older certainly but not better.

@Tegorian: <<<Not sure where or how you came to that ill informed opinion>>>

I accept this *FACT* base on professional reviews, such as from Consumer Reports.

<<<The lifetime on both LCD/OLED are similar>>>

No, they're not.

<<<and although LCD is brighter it CAN'T reach the same levels of black>>>

It's excellent, at worst.

<<<which in my opinion negates needing a brighter TV>>>

It in no way negates the need for a bright screen when you need it.

<<<Also, when it comes to uniformity and viewing angle OLED wins.>>>

Only relevant if you watch your TV at a 90 degree angle to the TV, if that. Perhaps if you watch TV behind the set?

@wolfpup7: LOL you are free to have your ill informed opinion as no Professional opinion nor consumer reports are going to back up what you claim. I own an OLED and multiple LCD displays and I can tell the difference between them is noticeable. If you walk into a store and see both and think it is negligible then so be it. I won't bother explaining sight to a blind man.

Yours is the uninformed opinion. You're unaware that there's a GIGANTIC swath of technologies and qualities that all fall under the "LCD" technology.

Even if there was a dramatic difference, LCD still has the huge advantage of being much brighter, not fading, and using less power.

@wolfpup7: This conversation is 3 months old, but I'll quip in. OLED is the true successor to both LED LCD and Plasma. Plasma tvs offered a superior picture than LED LCD, but Plasma sets were heavy, had burn in and glare due to the glass screen.

LED LCD tvs have been around for about a decade now and manufacturers have been able to make them more efficient. A lot of what you see LED LCD screens do well now is post processing, like local dimming and image interpolation. These processes are extra tech used to make the image look better. They have also been able to make them more energy efficient.

However, if you go for pure picture quality, OLED will be the future of TV's. It's potential far surpasses LED LCD screens in color spectrum, response time, clear motion and image clarity. In a year or two, OLED tv screen technology will be much improved and you will start seeing it pull way ahead LED LCD screens in every aspect. They have the potential to have less than 0.01 response time, which no LED LCD tv has come close to or even has the potential to do. Plasma screens had a 0.01 response time, which OLED will surpass.

When it comes to contrast ratio and black on the screen, OLED has true black and infinite contrast. This is because the LED lights simply do not turn on in that part of the screen when it comes to a dark and black images. LED LCD always has lights lit behind the LCD screen, so achieving true black can never happen. Local dimming has helped LED LCD in this area, but again it's a secondary process.

I don't know about the brightness aspect, that's definitely a personal preference, but I've seen OLED in bright stores, stores much brighter than my living room, and the screen brightness seems fine to me.

By the way, the Samsung Quantum LED's are not low end, so it being next to a Sony OLED, it would be one of the best in class for LED LCD.

Also all screens fade over time and using less power is simply something that will be solved over time. Even if they don't get it as low as LED LCD, the monetary savings value year over year is negligible at best. The 'much brighter' is generally a preference and something I'm sure will be solved in time as well for those that feel that way. So really the only true advantage you have listed over OLED currently is that LED LCD currently uses less power than OLED screens.

Over time, I expect all of those issues to be resolved. If right now, you prefer LED LCD because of those three things, then I can understand your preference and of course it's your money, you can buy whatever you'd like. However, besides the arguable screen life issue and brightness preference, OLED is entirely superior to LED LCD technology as a whole. It's not just a few people on a Gamespot forum who say that either, critics are talking that OLED tech is moving forward and surpassing LED LCD in a lot of ways already.

Well, that's my two cents!

@hitechgraphs: The Switch is portable, the Wii U was not portable. So even if it's a "Will U 2" that's pretty impressive for a portable machine. Honestly, it shouldn't be compared to the others, a better comparison would be against tablets or the PS Vita.

@MAXTHUNDER99: There is no way- It is probably going to be between $600-$800 USD. Which begs the question, why get this if you can just buy a PC? Also its making some bold claims about 4k, and even the stats are impressive, we know from the PS4 Pro it has a tough time doing real 4K. The Nvidia GTX 1080ti is a 4K card basically and it costs $700-$800 just for the GPU so how is this thing going to run true 4K? Main question is that it just probably be an upscaler just like the PS4 Pro.

@mighty-lu-bu: You just ate your own words it seems :) I told my buddy it'd be $499 and sure thing, $499. $600-$800 is just absurd lol, even if the PS3 was that much, Sony bit themselves in the butt hard on that mistake. You won't see a console for that much again.

@Mighty-Lu-Bu: MS has already stated that it is not just an "upscaler" and in fact would have to scale down to accommodate 1080p. As far as the price goes, hard to say, but MS already knows they can't price themselves out of the market again like they did at the start of this gen. It will be interesting to see if they can get the machine to do ALL of what they claim it will do AND be at an attractive price point.

Very happy with the pro, games look great on 4k, scorpio looks good too but it's games that count for more than power and Xbox is severely lacking and has been for some time, it's a shame the switch has been left behind so early on but it was up to Nintendo do release such an anaemic system.
