Which console is the most powerful? On paper, Microsoft's Xbox One X console is the most powerful system with its 6 teraflops of performance. This is over 4.5x of that of the original Xbox One and 1.4x the PS4 Pro, its closest console competitor.

No Caption Provided

Which console offers the most storage space? The console that currently offers the most storage space out of the box is the 2TB version of the Xbox One S. It’s worth mentioning that you can swap out the storage drives on the PlayStation 4 consoles, which is something Xbox One systems currently can’t do.

Which console is the smallest? Being a handheld console, the Nintendo Switch is the smallest system here measuring 4x6.8x2.1 inches.

Which console is the heaviest? While the Xbox One X is the smallest Xbox console yet, it's also the heaviest out the bunch, weighing in at 8.4 pounds.

If you don't understand the difference between there, their and they're you should never have been given an internet licence. Also your point is invalid.

Funny how specs from XB1X and PS4 pro are pretty similar and what websites show to prove how the XBX is more powerful is the number of teraflops, which is a very unreliable way of measuring how powerful a GPU is. There are PC GPUs that have less teraflops but are faster than others with more.

I'm not saying the XB1X isn't more powerful, I just think the difference is gonna be quite small.

@brunorr: I dunno about that, the PS4 and Xbox One show a pretty large difference when it comes to exclusives and their graphical capabilities(Decent differences with Multiplats). What's interesting, is looking at the numbers, the Xbox One actually beats out the PS4 in the CPU ghz, 1.75 vs 1.6 and GPU mhz, 914(850 original Xbox One) vs 800. The only number the PS4 has over the Xbox One is the a difference of .52 in teraflops(1.31 vs 1.83). The ram is GDDR5 instead of DDR3(Both have 8 gigs), which I did hear that GDDR5 is much better than DDR3.

Every number, besides CPU, is significantly higher between the Pro vs the X. CPU 2.1 ghz vs 2.3 ghz, 8 gigs of GDDR5 ram vs 12 gigs of GDDR5 ram(Which has a lot of potential to make a big difference) and of course the GPU 4.2 teraflops vs 6 teraflops. The differences are nowhere near as minute as with the base PS4 and Xbox.

So with that, I have a feeling there will be a difference greater between the X and Pro than that between the base Xbox One S and base PS4, which has proven to be blown up into huge differences.

However, just like with any console, it just depends on how much work the developer wants to put into making the game run better on the X vs Pro. I'm just saying from a numbers stand point, there should be a more apparent difference.

@thelostscribe: The Xbox One is slower than the PS4 because it's memory bandwith is far slower. Microsoft made a workaround to this by including 32MB of ESRAM but developers opt to simply lower the resolution instead of going through intricacies.

About the newer consoles, 200mhz of difference is nothing. And yes you can up the resolution with more RAM but it remains to be seen if it's noticeable in such high res. Maybe only if you play very close to a large 4K TV. And again, there are PC GPUs with less memory but faster than others with more.

Not trying to prove anything, I just think they are not informing us all they should about the hardware.

@brunorr: I guess my point was that the Xbox One had better specs in specs in CPU and GPU clocking speed and despite that, the PS4 has noticeably better graphics in comparison. The only two specs that were better in the PS4 base is where the Xbox One X is absolutely dominates against the PS4 Pro, Ram(Ram was simply more efficient, same amount in both base systems) and Teraflops(Which was barely more than half a point better in the base systems).

Obviously the CPU speed difference isn't a major player, because the PS4 base model is lower in that number than the base Xbox One. So based on the shear numbers and passed results, the Xbox One X has a lot more potential to work with and pull out of.

Whether or not we'll ever see games reach their full potential on the X, being as it's a half gen upgrade and the games would have to be able to run on the far inferior base Xbox One model, is yet to be seen. Rest assured, if both the PS4 Pro and X were released on their own merit, the X would be dominating hands down in graphical fidelity. Some early reviewers have already stated that the X shows much greater results than the PS4 Pro already.

Glad Nintendo went with Nvidia for the Switch, they have the proven fastest, most powerful mobile/tablet graphics/compute processors available at the moment, and probably the only choice for the form factor, but very powerful for it's size. Obviously not built to compete directly graphics-wise with Microsoft and Sony, that's obvious, but powerful enough to make amazing, huge games that you can take with you.

I have no intention on spending the money on an XboxOne X, I already have an S, even though I do have a 4k HDR TV, I've got a PC connected to it with a 980Ti.. so I can play some games at 4k quite well actually already, with all the benefits of the PC platform.

@bdiddytampa:

I haven't had many nice words for the Switch since its been out, but of all the consoles its the only one that offers something unique. I still think its a bit gimmicky and cheap with respect to design & build quality as I've purchased one for my son; but he enjoys it.

Like you, I'm going to do 4K on PC since all I need is to upgrade my GPU. I'll also need to grab a 4K panel, however I would need to purchase that regardless of platform.

I already have an XBO and PS4, so these mid-gen refreshes make no sense to me unless I go 4K.

@beantownsean: Cool deal, gamer through and through :-) I was just commenting on the specs, and that even though the Switch is, in a way, direct competition for the PS4 and Microsoft, it's not in a form factor or position to compete with their graphics. So Nintendo will do what Nintendo does best, make amazing games with less power and resources than the competition. It's not cutting edge graphics-wise, but you can't tell me when you play the games, they don't still look great.. just styled to take advantage of the resources available. Do they have all the tiny little details with 4k textures? No, of course not, but their bread and butter games don't need them. So can get away with making a console such as this. Something new and different and can transfer between TV and hand-held but still produce HD high quality games that play and look great in both forms. You don't need the top of the top, the best of the best, or the most detailed graphics to make fun, deep games.

I have a 4k, and still see no reason to shell out for 4k consoles, when I have systems that will play the same games, maybe a little less detailed visually, but the game will play the same and be just as fun, and as a gamer that's honestly all I want. The best, highest resolution, highest detailed 4k HDR games are amazing, and the details you can experience during gameplay is awesome, and looks fantastic. For me, gameplay is king, graphics are a topping. Everyone expects different things, so all will have their opinion. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry for the long one :-P

Cheers

Sega Mark III wins every-time

But on subject, I can only imagine all the P.C. comments about "real 4K" and "my specs are great" this has already accumulated.

Fun fact, the term Master Race and the meme with it, was thrown in a Witcher review by Yahtzee intending to mock people who brag about P.C. specs. Was never a form of flattery.

Yet so full of disillusion many didn't click with the joke and took it as a form of praise, sometimes I wonder why I still play games on my P.C. when it means I'll be associated with ignorant Tech-Heads. Heck I still love playing on my 3DS.

@RSM-HQ: I just like games.. doesn't matter where or what system, if the game is fun I'll play it :-) (3DS is one of my favorite consoles :-D) I'm fortunate enough to be able to experience different systems, I know a lot of people have to choose because it's expensive.. Most PC enthusiasts are like me I think. There's a vocal minority that makes the PC crowd seem so toxic, same with consoles, some crazy console wars.. most gamers I believe are just like me for the most part. It's nice to think that way anyway :-P

I seem to remember when the Xbone and PS4 first came out all the Sony fans were doing conga lines down the street because the PS4 was doing 1080P and the Xbox only 900p. Now its all about the quality of the games ehh? Its tribalism I guess. Just like in sports and politics.

@externalpower43: Some people did some didnt. To me PS4 was always about exclusives, its why i buy consoles, i do buy few sports games to play with friends and all 3rd party games are on PC for me including Xbox games on Windows 10.

So to me less or more powerful doesnt matter, what matters is the amount of quality exclusives really. If Xbox had better exclusives than PS4 i would have bought it if i didnt have a PC. So i would prefer 900p with mega exclusives instead of a 1080p with only a few good ones for example.

Haha you could say back then Xbox fans were saying it isnt all about 1080p and more power but now they are all about how power matters :D

Rubbish talk goes both ways really, modern times we live in when everyone has something to go on about online haha.

Im glad Xbox X is more powerful, its testing 4K waters while Sony went slightly different ways. now they will see how Xbox X does and utilize that next gen. One corp is always pushing the other

BUT if this mid thing is a one and done thingy... ps5 and next gen xbox, should be very close spec wise to come in at a price person like... not $500.. and by that time all games should run either native 4k or native 2k but knowing some dev they'll still you checkered board technique

Why not include a high end pc to show where consoles stand in comparison? PC is a platform too and just because it's way better spec wise doesn't mean it needs to get ignored not to overshadow the poor consoles...

The balance of decent hardware + cheap price + great games that Sony has going with the Pro is not something to be taken lightly. Even though Xbox is the more powerful, I think the PS4 will still sell very well.

The $100 price difference between the ps4 and the xbox x is too big just for some slightly better graphics, so I have to say the ps4 pro until microsoft drops the price, I know some people will try to defend it by claiming that it can play 4k bluray disc but that have nothing to do with gaming and the reason we buy a console is to play games.

@hardcoregamer1: For some, being able to say they have the most powerful console will be worth the extra cost. For others, they would rather save the money. But for most, I think they are going to choose the platform that their friends are on or the platform that has the games they want first, and then decide between the two options available on that platform. So, they won't really consider the $100 price difference between the two premium consoles.

@TrueLink: I disagree $100 price difference is a big deal for the average joe gamer with bills to pay or for the teenager who is asking his mom to buy a console, some people make enough so they dont care about price but that is a very small percentage of gamers.

@hardcoregamer1: Uh-huh. And that average Joe gamer with bills probably won't be buying the premium console anyway. But when they do, most will compare platforms first.

This is especially true for the Mom buying for their teenager. The teenager will say they want an Xbox. Then the parent will go to the store and see one for $200 - $250 and one for $500. That's their comparison. The teenager may also give a specific request like, "Mom, I want a PS4 Pro." The teenager is not likely to say "Mom, I want either a PS4 Pro or an Xbox One X. You decide which one."

@TrueLink: I dunno, kids today are pretty demanding lol. Xbox are under no delusion that the X will sell much less than the S. I agree with you too, first comes the comparing of platforms. Some people will get both the Pro and the X, some people will only get one.

However, there have been plenty of analysts that have said that the $499 price tag for the power under the hood of the X is a good value. It's more powerful than the Pro, so there's no way it would sell for the same price at the initial launch, the loss would be too much on the production cost.

As the original fans of Xbox get older, generally with age, disposable income increases. I personally want to buy the Xbox One X, because I want a second Xbox One, but I'm waiting to buy a 4K tv first, which will hopefully be soon.

I think the interesting dilemma of the power of the XB1X is what's Sony's next move.

It kind of sets the benchmark for them and what they release next. Its a bold move from MS sing the bar so high.

Do Sony go the Nintendo route and focus on the games or try to compete in specs, I presume the latter.

@barcaazul: Sony's next move is to wait for the next generation. The Xbox One X is more powerful than the PS4 Pro, but not to a point that it is totally destructive to what Sony is doing. And it's not a new generation. They are doing fine and will likely continue doing fine throughout this generation.

I agree but I think this could blur the lines of what next gen is. Most would expect a PS5 to be more powerful than the XB1X.

@TrueLink: It is not destructive yet depending on if MS expands on what they have and what it will do the next generation and not this generation. Thing is MS is still going to make money regardless of where it stands and that is all it has to do is maintain. Xbox is not going to break MS being it is not core to it's business.

@TrueLink: Yeah, but the difference between the standard PS4 and Xbox One was not destructive either, however, people took any chance to knock the Xbox One for only getting 900p on multiplats or their exclusives not looking as good.

However, Sony is winning in console sales by almost double, so I agree, they will be waiting for the next gen to upgrade any hardware at this point. To do so before the end of this gens life cycle, would be in my opinion, a poor business move. The PS4 Pro is only a year old and to try to release more powerful hardware would sink that investment as well as cause anger from their fans I think.

While Sony is winning in numbers, it sounds like Xbox itself is still selling profitably for Microsoft.

@thelostscribe: Exactly and that is all MS has to do is to maintain.

@lonewolf1044: Yep, as long as the Xbox division is pulling in profit, then that's really all that matters. Yes it would be great to be the leader of the pack in sales, but the bottom line is to make money.

@TrueLink:

I think so too, and MS pushing the bar higher isn't a bad thing for everyone.

@barcaazul: at the end of the day all you have it POWER... Dreamcast was more powerful than ps2 and it got them no where fast...

I just think MS shouldn't have went for the performance crown MID-CYCLE... Wooo who to that..

> As of today, the PS4 Pro is arguably the most powerful console on the market

How is it "arguably"? It's definitively.
